Next course of action in prep for the new, not leaking like a stuck-pig 34” wide radiator was ridding Edgar of the perpetually leaking oil lines all GMT400 folks are all too familiar with. Ewwwww….
So up ol’ Eggy went on the Race Ramps, which were a college graduation gift about 10 years ago...
As one of my favorite Texan musicians, Robert Earl Keen, once sang:
“It's the little things!
the itty bitty things!
It's the little things
That piss me off!” ?
I got a phone call the other day… it was 2003, calling collect, and it told me in no uncertain terms that it wanted it’s chrome...
I’m digging it K5-CJ5! I’ve basically got the same truck, just a standard cab and really enjoy it. Low-range, 1st gear on the NV4500 is ridiculous in the best way.
Keep up the good work and can’t wait to see the Durabak paint job
@CountryboyNC, I like the SuperTop a lot! I was skeptical at first compared to the old hard shell canopy, but the more I use it, the more I like it.
The quality seems pretty darn good. What were your impressions on the differences between the Supertop and softopper?
Those are great trucks as well @CountryboyNC. I spent a lot of time in the past riding around in, driving and going on adventures in a friends’ dark blue 2003 crew cab, short bed Dakota 4x4 (with the 4.7 V8/Auto). It was a great little truck and did everything we asked it, was comfortable and...
I just returned from a 5 day truck camping trip near the Canadian Border in the North Cascades of Washington. Photos to come. In the meantime, a random roadside shot of ol’ Edgar in the Orting Valley.
Interesting! I always wondered if something along those lines would be a problem with torsion bar relocation (specifically the Realift torsion bar relocators) and if you look at the physics of it, it makes sense
The lever gets longer, so it changes the effect of the torsion... or something like...
Good to hear@Smileyshaun. I’m in the same boat with Kendas. I love them for the bikes. Depending on the bike, I run Kenda Trakmasters (my favorite knobby for the PNW), Big Blocks or K761 dual sport tires. Have been really happy with Kenda MC tires over the years.
Glad to hear the Klever is a...
Had to go and pickup a few of my Dad’s vintage bikes (a 1971 Honda CB175 and a 1984 Honda CT110) and they fit snugly without having the topper in the down position.
Thank you for the input on the Kendas @Smileyshaun, I really appreciate it! It’s always good to hear from someone who’s actually running the same size/brand of tire/wheel on a similar truck. I just read through your thread and you’ve got agreat looking GMC!
Installed the Bestop Super top yesterday and am pretty happy with how it came out, especially considering this particular one was made to fit a newer Nissan Titan or Ford F-150.
I actually read the instructions, which were surprisingly helpful, and realized that the front of the bed on these...
Nothing too exciting, just mocked up the full exhaust system:
another angle
As noted earlier in the thread, what we have here is a Flowmaster 17126 exhaust system with a Jegs Off-Road Y-pipe, all of the tubing of which is 3” mandrel bent stuff with a 70 series “big block” muffler to tie it...
Thanks to a another good friend who is also a truck and off-roading enthusiast and diligent browser of Facebook marketplace, I was able to score two pieces of gear that I would have probably never been able to afford otherwise...
The first is a like-new Bestop Supertop for a later model 6.5ft...
So, lets go down a theoretical random train of thought that doesn't necessarily relate to the build-up and repair of Edgar... Some friends and I were spit balling on 35" tires in general (the conversation started with a good friend and fellow truck buddy that has a heavily modified, long-travel...
Awesome build @Rebuilder and I like your approach. The Home-Depot aluminum flatbed looks like a nice unit to start with. Also, the 4x4 conversion on a 2WD is super cool.
I knew things were going to get interesting when I saw the “Flying Merkin” in the background. I followed your build on ADV...
@ratled,
If you find yourself needing more traction on your 2WD 1500 Silverado, I can't really think of any downsides to adding a selectable rear locker (since you mentioned "easy-button", I'll assume you want a selectable vs an automatic locker) other then the cost of the locker itself (which...
Hi Eugene,
The trailer works well for me due to ease of loading and unloading (14” deck height on the trailer vs nearly 40” on the truck bed) as well as the increased payload of the trailer which is rated to 3,000lb vs. the trucks 1,500 or so. Being able to get 2 yards of dirt at a time...
