Thanks. I was going to mount the control face to the VIC but my knuckles hit it when shifting into park. The recessed panel I made to replace the VIC could be thicker aluminum. It's a little flexy but it works for now. If you make another run of switch panels I might relocate the radio face.
Nice stuff. My white 97 is nowhere near that aggressively kitted. Really digging the VIC switches. Any chance you have photos of the sub structure and how it mounts in before the trim goes back on? I've been planning to do the same thing as my accessory installs ramp up. Already gutted the VIC...
Yeah...but I'm in a Jeep designed by Chrysler in the early 90s and wired by Lucas...the wiring is uh...entertaining.
I've always thought the old westies are cool but never felt the need to own one.
No, not the main power, just the low amp signal that turns on a heavy duty relay. It wouldnt draw more than a few milliamps through the switch.
Unless you were worried about it being a single point of failure..... hmm.
ahhh...okay, taking that idea and running with it... what about a SPDT switch that uses the 2 throw terminals as my source (ACC or ALWAYS) and runs the single output to my relay? now THAT sounds like an idea!
Actually, a friend lost a nice 1972 Skylark convertible to a faulty headlight switch about 10 years ago. The old push-pull switches ran some serious amperage through them. Fire started behind the dash, burned the interior and ragtop completely out. Car was a total loss but the engine (a nice...
Verkstad: I wondered about this too. Adding a diode in the line between the ACC source and the other hot line should avoid the problem. I think.
Dread: It lists 500 mA, squelched. Doesn't mention details beyond that. So yeah, I could leave it on, but I just don't like the idea of having...
After our recent thread about the value of dual band ham transceivers, I now have one on the way. I'm thinking about the power connections. I know I can run the time delay shut-off on the radio and wire straight to the battery (with a fuse of course) but I don't do anything the easy way. I'd...
FWIW I had my standard AT3s in some serious slick mud last weekend and they had way more traction than they had any right to. I was happily surprised. Aired down to 20psi all around on a 3800lb rig, the C rated tires did great on road transits and off in the muck.
Just thought I'd share since...
Budget...ahhh ha ha ha! Ha ha! Whoo....ah. good times, good times.
But seriously. What was said above is true. You can budget for large items but it's never a complete plan, doubly so if it's a used vehicle, more than that if its "vintage." I like the 2-3/3-2 idea, that seems accurate.
One of...
I'm not saying it has to or should. I'm saying that most of the growth in ham right now is due to adoption in the adventure travel realm. If GMRS offered fully supported solutions for that, most adventure users would go that route. BUT there's an opportunity to use that to grow ham even more...
dread, your post is most in line with how I'm seeing this whole thing, plus I've gained a lot of insight from the other posts here.
Let me preface this next part with this: I UNDERSTAND CURRENT HAM LICENSING DOES NOT COVER ACTIVITY ON GMRS. I get it. That wasn't my point in the first place...
