D rated options in the venerable 255/85-16

not sure that's true. I searched for D rated in that size and only found the General Grabber AT2 in an All Terrain. That tire is discontinued and General only make E rated in that size. Jump up to a 17" wheel and the options open up quite a bit.

my 04 Supercharged, SAS'd, 37"-tire xcab has gotten 18+ on the highway when I used to drive it more often. Luck? Probably...

My 02 4runner gets 15. My 04 Tacoma dcab gets about 15. My F350 gets about 15.... all around town. Seems to be the magic number for me.

I'll have to remeasure... but front is pushed forward ~3" for the axle to clear the oil pan... and rear is back 1", IIRC... So maybe ~130" is a better estimate.

he said his Tacoma gets 16-17... I was able to eek out 18 on a Tundra that was ~1k heavier and with 2 more cylinders. People tend to assume that less cylinders = better mileage... but that's not a rule....

Disagree... close to a perfect wheelbase for rock crawling... my xcab is almost 133” wheelbase - would move to get into a 112-118” range.

That’s an assumption, but not a guarantee. It depends on torque curves, HP curves, gearing, etc. I got as much as 18.5 in my crew max - better than your smaller Tacoma...

    Clutch’s deep thoughts thread...

part of the reason the ARB sticks out so far is due to the pedestrian collision design criteria forced upon the manufacturers. That's one of the reasons the new Tacoma's and 4Runners have extended noses. In order for ARB to maintain it's signature design, they were kind of forced to go in front...

    Clutch’s deep thoughts thread...

If Toyota would put the 4.6 V8 in the Tacoma... then I'd have some interest. Until then, there are simply better truck options, IMHO... Been eyeing up the 4Runner recently... considering selling the xtracab and SAS'ing the 4Runner. I don't know why. …

06 Tundra: Proceed with build or move on?

Probably is. Take it in anyway... there are still tons of new/used frames in the back lot of my local Toyota dealer... never hurts to ask

    4Runner SR5 - Can it be upgraded

I personally see no value in the TRD models. Most people spend thousands extra to get the rear locker and throw the rest of the upgrades away. Big fan of both of my SR5’s.

    1994 Pickup: Torsion bar compromised?

That’s the drivers side diff mount. Get a picture of the frame from the wheel well - I’m betting, based on the pic of that mount, that your frame is bent.

    1994 Pickup: Torsion bar compromised?

I’ve had to spread the lower mount on a truck or two to get a brace in - they can be manipulated. Shoot, though, that was in 96 to install a Downey brace with a Rancho kit. I’ve seen a couple of frames collapsed right behind that mount. Kind of dimpled, I guess. I can imagine that being a PITA...
