New Tacoma vs Colorado vs Ranger

As a current mid-size owner but past full-size owner, I think this is a really good question. With the new trucks it'd be interesting to see all the updated dimensions (width, length, wheelbase, approach, departure, etc) ,real world MPG, weight, and maneuverability for their application...

I was working and mountain biking between thunderstorms this week. Love that with sideways rain the soft walls didn't flap and there wasn't any water ingress at all.

    Pactical LJ Build

It's been a great and reliable vehicle over the years (some pics). Total lift currently is ~3" full lift kit from JKS, with factory fenders. There's a little rub on a control arm at full lock and sway bar disconnected. I'm going to do a 1" body lift and get the center skid flat this season. The...

    Pactical LJ Build

With my LJR in the Montana Rockies I would agree about 35s+5.13. I have 4.88 and 285/75r16s with the automatic and it's about right for mpg and hills. I think 35s + 4.88 would be so-so on our passes at highway speeds. Mods that we've done that I like and aren't on yours already: The Rubicon...

Sweet JTR! How's the Icon ride on highway and on rough roads? I had an Icon kit on a past Taco, but curious how they would change my JTR. I find the stock Rubicon suspension way too soft. Are the added shackle points a 3rd party kit or did you fab the bumper to fit them?

Yeah, I noticed that was all many of the overland style roof racks were using for crossbars anyways. Ovrlnd did the roof track install, I opted to get double length to run the full roof line. I would say you cannot walk directly on the roof, the shell seems a little thin for that. If you had a...

Nothing super exciting but I took advantage of sales at Tnutz and Prinsu and added cross bars to my roof tracks. I used mounting feet from Prinsu (came with all hardware) and then 1"x2"x55" 8020 for the bars. I have double length roof tracks and for now am doing 3 cross bars. One near the back...

Oh interesting, mine was just built in Feb this year, I like the utility of the 8020.

I added Series 4040 slide nuts with eyelet bolts into the camper bed support rails and then attached biners and an adjustable clothesline. Worked great this last trip, the clothesline works for drying out hiking/climbing clothing or as a curtain for the back windows and I hung 30L stuff sacks...

I love the longer beds for hauling mountain bikes, but honestly I don't miss downsizing all the way to a 5' bed and smaller truck with the OVRLND. I had a 5.5 F150 crew with a Lear, then a 6' DCLB Taco with a raised Lear. I originally ordered the OVRLND for the Taco, but decided to get a shorter...

I couldn't live without the side hatches, love the huge opening for dealing with gear or securing loads at the front of the bed. We got windows everywhere, and Terns in our side hatches. The terns were our biggest splurge, but having used them in lots of weather and conditions now I would get...

Love the setup, that looks great! I'm doing more of the "keep the truck bed utilitarian", but am planning on a similar back shelf like you have for your fridge. Do you think the shelves (right-side in picture) are sturdy enough to act as a step for an adult?

We're also using Exped Megamats, but 2 singles. Our double sleeping bag (Big Agnes) has pad sleeves that hold them in place. They are foam+inflatable and about 3" inflated. They are carryovers from our previous truck bed setup and when we tent camp with our Wrangler but work well in a variety of...

Camping too much to modify my OVRLND ;). Just got back from a 2700 mile road trip through ID, NV, CA, OR, & MT. Sadly not a ton of offroad. We appreciated the camper since we had our truck bed full of boxes from my in-laws and could still have a usable in-door bed. REALLY liked having the...

Definitely appreciated the low clearance of a popup camper this last weekend, not to mention the lightweight. Sitting flush with the sides of the bed rails was also huge, I would've had to bail on some routes and backtrack if I had a Kimbo or a Project M or definitely would've damaged one of...

The way my roof liner is attached to the ceiling (along every wall + to the wood center supports + roof fan) I didn't need anything permanent to hold the wool, although I'm sure I forgot some tape :). Some people recommend a mildew resistant (ie, nylon) cord/line to hold the wool. That's...
