    Question of the year

Brian - my main concern with a van is the higher COG than an suv. Having tipped over before, it is more of a concern for me than most people. While I don't foresee putting myself, my family, or this vehicle in that type of position, it does make me a little more aware of a higher COG. One of...

    Question of the year

I was not offended, I just didn't understand where you were heading. I have a rather good and devious sense of humor myself, emphasis on the devious (I was banned from Pirate a few years back but I digress). The reason I didn't understand where you were heading is this: my oldest 3 boys are...

    Question of the year

No sir, I did not miss your point. Don't misinterpret the fact that I just didn't agree with you as missing your point. This isn't just "7 people", it is a family of 7, with the key word being family. I'm not one of these parents who let their kids watch DVD's, play games and listen to their...

    Question of the year

I guess you're right. I should just stay home and not allow my children to experience the world and all it's glories just because things might be a little snug.:ylsmoke: Yeah, forget adventure. Allow my children to not communicate like a family. Maybe I should forgo parenting as well, perhaps...

    wiring diagram needed

I did not as I only have the fridge installed. I will do an auxiliary box when I add a winch and a few other goodies.:bike_rider:

I ran a separate line for my fridge with the fuse as close to the battery as possible.

    Disco 1 or not?

There is a lot of internet malarkey about the '96 DI being the worst year. I have yet to read factual proof other than opinions, and you know what they say about those... My '96 was a good one. Maintenance is always an issue with any vehicle but more so with a rover.

    Question of the year

25+mpg? Really? Wow! What is the rear axle in those years? Excellent to know the front axle is a swap in - is the gearing the same too?

    Disco 1 or not?

Rubicon51 - if you are near NorCal, feel free to come on over and drive my rangie. I used to have a 96 DI and drove the crap out of it. Other than a fuel pump and the belt tensioner, she never let me down. I switched to RRC LWB for more room for the chillins' and love it! I have a 3" lift on...

    Question of the year

Yeah, great minds think alike. You are "a bit more" mechanical than I am so I will probably end up buying something newer. Plus, Suzi is a city girl so I think she would like something nicer than an older vehicle - although it would be cool if we had similar projects so the need to carry fewer...

    Question of the year

Thank for the input. In all honesty, I sort of like a "rough" ride. That's why I love my Land Rovers - I can "feel" the road. I drive my wife's Benz sometimes and I hate it! I see a bump in the road and I get ready to adjust my driving (part of the fun of driving!) and then nothing. Nothing...

    Question of the year

This exact information really helps! That was one of the things I was worried about - repairs in the middle of nowhere. Knowing that most of the parts are the same really calms some fears that I had. Hmmm... good points.

    just a few questions.

If you are not dead set on a Disco, check out some rangies too. We have our MORG (Monthly Off Road Gathering) the first Saturday of each month at Hollister OHV. Perhaps tag along some time. I am sure any of the members will let you test drive their rig so you can get a feel for what each...

    Roof Rack dilemna

Stevenmd + Suzimd + 5 chillins' = roof rack AND a trailer! There are some trails that it is just plain logistically impossible to bring the whole family on.

    Question of the year

Thank you for the input. I was never really a Ford guy until I actually started comparing the Suburban to the Excursion. An Excursion looks pretty bad@ss with the Aluminess bumpers!

    just a few questions.

LOL! I had a 96 DI, beat that thing to death, kept on running, I actually tried to blow the engine so I could have an excuse to put something else in it. Dang thing just kept on going. Didn't change the oil for over 50K miles. Didn't leak any oil, it was kind of creepy.

    Tonight's Dinner Will Consist Of........

Some Arrogant Bastard with Boddingtons to follow. Sparkling cider for the kids. Mainly snack foods tonight. Just enjoying a safe night at home with Suzi and the kids. Maybe head up to the snow tomorrow.

RRT on a small trailer options?

This might help: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36508 Trailer mounted units and vehicle mounted units are the same model, just mounted differently. (I stand corrected, thanks Martyn!)
