    LN2 Snorkel

I don't believe they are available anymore, but I don't think it would be all that difficult to custom mold one out of fiberglass. A bit of foam to carve for the bottom, some off the shelf fiberglass tube and a standard aftermarket top. Heck, after the first one is made a mold could be taken and...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Yes, when I refer to overdrive I am referring to the split gear 6 speed. It has a final drive ratio of .83 in high gear. The 5 and regular 6 speed have a final drive of 1.0. The .83 would be nice to either bring the revs down or increase the top speed.

Now we're talking with the ceramic coating, probably go with a black if possible though! Your turbo install looks interesting. So on the outlet side the common way to do my upgrade is to cut the end off the charged air pipe and weld it back on at a slightly different angle. This is the most...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Here is the Jet Hot website. Mostly for hot rods but they claim a 56% reduction in under hood temps. Just don't want to pass on so much heat that it causes other issues downstream. I haven't heard of a 7 speed but there are 2 different 6 speeds. The one that came on any 4x4 was still direct...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

The cab does have the factory rubber insulated floor mats plus a layer of RattleTrap (which I doubt helps much here) and carpet (I know, kinda soft). Given the exhaust manifold is rusty I am considering getting it ceramic coated inside and out. I don't have any first hand experience with this...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

I would but it is slightly above the 22kg weight limit. You bring up a good point though, maybe I should look for one while I am there...

Need electrical wiring diagram for MB 917/1017

Strange, I am registered on that forum. If you can't get it to work email me your question. I'll cut and paste it. One word of advice, translate from English to German isn't perfect so try and help it along by using simple phrases and no abbreviations.

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Little update, we parked the truck a few weeks ago in order to fly east and visit family and in September to visit a friend in Spain. We spent the better part of a year in Spain while sailing and loved it. Now we get to visit again for a few weeks but get to be hosted by an overlanding friend...

    Lowly the Lorry. . .

By shackles do you mean the upright links that went from the sway bar to the chassis? If so how strong is what you printed? If this is the part I am guessing yours were pretty rusted (poor design IMHO as the bottom end forms a nice cup), ours were. I had a local welding shop make some up. They...

    Higher Amp Alternators

I am no expert but I don't think ours is a pad mount. This is what ours looks like, the foot is 80mm If this one doesn't work out then next step is a 150 amp Bosch, or contacting Balmar to see if they have a unit that would fit. We had Balmar alternators on the boat and they survived the...

    Higher Amp Alternators

I would suspect the wiring and mount would be the same, and finding a 12v alternator should be easier here in the USA.

    Higher Amp Alternators

I think I have finally stumbled on a few things about alternators on our OM366LA engine. I suspect that this information is also usable for the OM352 engines and possibly other MB engines as I think the mounting points are similar (80mm foot seems to be the big thing). So here is goes...

    1120 AF Build in Norway

Joe has a point, I would look into trying and designing some overhead cabinets (all of our dishes, glasses, some clothes and a lot of other things are stored there). Might cause you to rethink the height of your windows though. We do really enjoy being able to see out of our windows both while...

5 Things (or more) you would change after traveling in your truck?

About the 6 speed. From my digging around on the web (mainly the LN2 forum) all the 4wd trucks came without an overdrive. So your 6 speed will likely have closer gear spacing which should help in the hills. Mercedes did though make a version of your gearbox with overdrive for 2wd trucks. From...

    1120 AF Build in Norway

I think yours design is coming along nicely and should be pretty comfortable. You will get a heap of dust on the rear window, but it sure looks like a nice place to hang out. For us, the only time a sunken set of entry steps would be nice is when we have visitors. I do plan though to revise our...

Drag link ball joint and getting them apart

Thanks Neil, do you remember where you found one of those separators big enough? The ones I see online look line the fork end is a bit narrow. When you replaced the entire drag link bar, did get the parts from Mercedes?

Drag link ball joint and getting them apart

Hey guys, not sure if this is what these parts are called but coming out of the power steering pump there is an arm that points downward. This arm is connected to a drag link bar that goes back to the wheel hubs so you can turn. Well the little boot for the ball joint that comes off the power...

5 Things (or more) you would change after traveling in your truck?

Hey Dimitri, here it goes 1. Would install a larger LifePO4 battery bank. Ours is 400A at 12v, I would now cram in as much as I could fit. Likely 800A. Great for those days of no sun and opens the options up a bit to run a DC air con while parked. 2. Would not have installed the Tern hatches or...

    Leaf Spring Suspensions

Hey guys, there seems to be a fair amount of thought/discussion about which subframe to choose for a build. Good because it will dictate how much your frame will be allowed to twist when things get uneven. What I haven't seen much though is discussion on how to allow your axles/wheels be a bit...

    Spring Mounts for Rail-on-Rail Subframe

Our vertical guide plates are bolted onto the chassis, essentially they just guide the subframe and keep it directly above the chassis rails. There is no gap and so far there has not been an issue as the guides are taller than the spring mounts will allow the subframe to move. There is no...
