We went with Blue Seas also, they make some nice panels. We were used to the older style breakers so just stuck with them. From our previous sailing life it is highly recommended to separate the AC panels from the DC (actually it is required to pass survey, our water heater is 12v). I also...
So when I was searching for a replacement radiator the aftermarket Nissens 62743 (this is the one we have) came up as the replacement. The core is 26mm thick. More digging I found I found a different Nissens 62563 with a 43mm core. I think they are very similar, though on the drawing the 62563's...
Yes, and it does make noise. In normal cooler weather it will cycle on/off. In this heat it is always on.
Ok, will look into those suggestions (the stock shroud is in place, but the intercooler blocks most of the front, plus the hood "opening" is a bit small). Amy chance anyone knows of a...
Thanks Joe, so we are essentially up against the upper limits of heat. Not sure if it is the over 110f heat in the hills or something in the cooling system. I did have to put in an aftermarket radiator, which seems to be a single core. Wonder if I could get any better cooling using a custom...
I'll mention the wheel nuts to him, I do know that this 20" rims are relatively new and I think he switched wheel nuts then. I think the nuts you're suggesting are the ones we have, they're 2 pieces. A separate split tapered washer and a nut that needs a 27mm socket.
And I forgot to mention 2...
Time for a quick update, we did continue on northward hiking here and there along the way. We are now in Oregon visiting family and catching up on some truck projects. We are also able to meet up again with Sandie and Karsten in Ewald https://www.ewaldontour.net/. And unfortunately it was also...
I have to say after a year and a half of travel our biggest hurdle is the size of the truck. Now this has only been in the USA and Baja so limited experience. Seems way before the roads get super rough trees/cactus/cliffs appear and stop forward progress (well guess you can add getting a...
As far as the power bump, I am also looking into doing something. Another option I learned about on the German LN2 forum is replacing the turbo with a more modern one from a later generation Mercedes. My turbo doesn't build much boost in the lower RPM range due to design. A slightly more modern...
I am sure you have thought of this but the wiring you say glue before the insulation goes in, are you planning on being able to replace it if there is ever an electrical issue (I know, probably a dumb question)? Our sailboat had PVC conduit thru out for wiring runs, which made things way easier...
Not sure what that can is but we don't have it. Your truck is a bit newer so maybe something with emissions?
We also ran into that bulbous bit contacting the sway bar when all the bits were dangling. Once attached it cleared ok.
Well the motorcycle idea is on the back burner. With Covid things are still a bit limited for shipping, so we will just rent a car while there. We are planning on the month of September, should be good fun. Maybe when the world opens up a bit more we will put the motorbike idea into play.
So I...
Thanks Andreas, while in Europe we wintered over in Valencia. Flights were very cheap so did a trip with stops in the UK, Netherlands, Prague and France. We has a blast and stayed in either Airbnb or smaller places using booking.com. Rough plan is to spend a month in Spain, store to he bike then...
Our chassis already had the mounts from the firebox that was on it. I matched the mounting points on the new subframe. I am thinking now I should have used stiffer springs as the box moves more than I would like. I may change to stiffer ones once I get other projects completed.
So we are back...
Nice work, pretty sure you're going really enjoy the ride especially with the front springs. We're back in the States and I have started back on the shock upgrade. Any chance you have time to do some measurements? Mainly need the ones with the wheel hanging in the air with the chassis supported...
I have been toying with the idea of shipping a motorcycle to Spain for a bit of touring. I would plan on about a month for the next few years. Amy thoughts on a reasonable priced way to get the bike there? Any suggestions on a shipper? Any issues using a US tagged bike there?
Not sure if it is a problem with it being an American truck. For us it has been more of a problem being an old truck that was converted to an RV. These trucks are not common and when the average American hears about a 30 year old truck that was converted to an RV, they immediately envision a...
So here is a list of the parts to build your own portable water filter. If anyone comes up with some better components or ideas please share them.
The exterior hose connections
5" water filter housing
5" carbon filters
This is the battery I used, for some reason Amazon's pricing is now...
Little update as I have my morning coffee. We have been hanging out on the beach for the last 3 nights, really pretty spot with nice snorkeling. Last night we had a special treat, we met a couple at the Overland Expo in 2019. They were camped next to us in their Ford Econoline that they had...
