This is where doing a scale drawing comes in handy. When I was at the point you are now, trying to picture how high it was all going to be was hard! I had to draw our truck and work out how much room I wanted and where... Attached is a (very rough) sketch of how ours is. With the truck sat...
Hi Pairoa.
So, I have a 5 point system, similar to what you plan to build, but the difference is I have my two fixed points at the front of the truck. I then have 3 central pivots running up the centerline of the chassis rails. I think as the fixed pivots are not in the middle of the...
More about the doors once I have the body off and get into cladding the whole thing again! Before I remove the body for cladding and painting, there are still a few things to do.. One thing that I had been putting off for a while was the additional support for the body at the rear to assist with...
Well, after a bit of a lull due to a few things going on in our lives, I have finally got back into the truck build. With the roof rack fabrication done and dusted, I turned my attentions to the doors between the cab and body. We were not a fan of a door swinging around and forever being in the...
It's funny to see you doing what I have just done. I lifted the cab on our truck the same as you. Our 'spare' truck had all the mounts. You can see in this picture that there are spacers as standard on the chassis just like you have made! :) There should be a little rubber guide on top of the...
Looks like you have been very busy. Just out of interest, where did the center line of your pivots end up? The front one I'm guessing was pretty well central in the middle of the two "C" sections, with the rear pivot just a little above center....
So, how does that cab have room for the V8 yet has a flat floor... Does the engine sit higher in your chassis? I swapped all the mounts over from our donor prime mover which lifted the cab 70mm... I recon that cab would look amazing grafted against a body.... a bit like this.... ;)
Those pictures there sum up exactly why we build trucks! How nice is it to have the ability to drive into a stunning location like that, then park up and explore for as long as we like whilst living in comfort, then leave without leaving a trace. Love it!
Another wet, windy and cold day here mad for another unmotivating day. I did manage to fit another two spotlights sourced from Faceplant for $80 AUD, and finish off the snorkel. Tomorrow will be spent refitting the rear cab springs and adjusting them to suit the roof rack weight and two people...
Yeah, it was the wheels that caught my eye! Sleeping 6 would have been a challenge. Spudboy down here in SA built his rig using a crewcab MAN with the idea people would join them... He wishes he'd gone with a single cab and bigger hab box now as people do join them... in their own fourby or...
Sure. It's just 2mm Alli sheet with a small fold in it to match the body. I have 3 shaped pieces of Alli that hold it to a few of the ladder rounds and a flat piece of 25 x 3 flat at the top of the ladder. The latch is a Southco C5 Compression Latch. They are available with the latch arm in...
It still seems to be taking an age though! I'll be very impressed when you txt me to say you are inbound with the truck! You should aim to get here mid 2022... have a year in Oz, and then ship out to Africa with us!
That spot you flew into with the small planes looked fantastic!! :)
A little more progress today. Removed both upright panels and fabricated/fitted the covers. The left one is easily removed to access the hidden ladder. It's been wet and windy all day here, so there wasn't much motivation to do anything!
Another dodgy lift with the tractor saw the completed roof rack back atop the cab. I'm pleased with the result. Once it's painted, It should tie in with the body quite well.
I have a switch like that in the cab of my donor truck, and had planned to use it. I'd like to have set it up with the train horns, but it'd have to be a huge electric valve to operate them... Unless I can find one, I plan to have a 1/2" gate valve in the ceiling of the cab that's a little...
