Now I can hear it with a decent muffler yes!

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Not yet.... I have a donor engine that has the turbo and manifolds etc on it, but to fit the turbo requires quite a bit of gear linkage mods etc, and intercooler fitting... I'm leaving that until I have the truck back on the road. Once I have a usable Overlander, turbo fitment can happen later...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Small update here. I have a few things left to do before lifting the body off again and stripping the truck ready to paint the chassis, cab and sideshirts... (which I guess I've been putting off, as suddenly I won't have something that resembles an Overlander...) Seems to be a backwards step...

Unimog U1300L 435 1986 - Restore to former glory & add custom camper

Hi Si. Ours is also 50 x 50 SHS (BOX), and will be skinned with 2mm alli bonded on the outside also with Sikaflex 252. We are using Kingspan Kooltherm 10 which is a fire retardant and won't take on water (UK product sourced here in Australia). It's a solid type foam with foil one side and...

Then when they tested the second alternator, they ran it at higher speeds, so there was no comparison... Hmmm. :)

I tend to agree... Just remember, when you turn the engine off, the coolant remains under pressure for quite a few hours after you have stopped... It then sits in the bottom of the sump as the oil floats on water, until you turn the key the next day. Once the engine is running that water then...

Pretty Ugly... 1835, The Build Begins

Sides being built already! You are not mucking about! So are these to suit the height of the blue cab or the red cab? ;)

The plot thickens... So, as your mechanic has prob pointed out, sludge in the rocker cover (looks a bit like partially cooked egg white) is a good sign there is an internal water leak. Fingers crossed it is the injector sleeves. Having the head crack and pressure tested will hopefully also...

Pretty Ugly... 1835, The Build Begins

Either way, you have a lot of work... Realistically the height is a no go...You ideally don't want to be much above 3.5m total height. I also think that if you have rust to repair in the red cab as well as cutting the floor out and trying to make that work, the work involved is overtaking the...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

With 4 litres every 50 miles, it does indeed now should like it is consuming the water. That said, you mentioned you can occasionally smell coolant which tells me there is still an external system leak... I'd assume the mechanic that is doing the job will carry out all the normal diagnostic...

Pretty Ugly... 1835, The Build Begins

When I lifted our 'spare' cab of the donor truck before I sold the chassis, we did exactly that. A strap thru the open doors onto a 3m pallet rack cross bar that was strapped to the fork tines. I took a punt that the center was the right place to lift but I should have been approx. 200mm further...

    Cab Over Truck Snorkel

Hi Jon. Here's what is on ours.... First pic is the fiberglass outer snorkel itself. It's held to the A pillar by a clamp at the top and nutcerts, and small M8 rubber blocks that are about an inch thik at the bottom (just drilled through strategic points at the base of the cab). Second pic is...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Hi Jon. Have you put a pressure tester on the coolant system when it's cold? If not, it's worth parking the vehicle on a dry clean flat surface and then pressurising the system with a rad tester. If the pressure does not hold steady, then the water is going somewhere, or the tester/cap is...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Hi Joe. The access hole in the cab is reasonably close to the ceiling (in line with the roof gutter outside), so the door folds up into the void below the vent hatch, so they are up as far as they can be. The door in the Hab Box folds up to the point where its about 20mm from the face of the AC...

Agreed. If you manage to get that red cab succesfully onto your chassis without too many mods, then the shape of that cab and it's height naturally depicts the height of your body. I had quite a bit of work getting my roof rack looking right on top of my lower cab so it matched the body. You...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Another day in the workshop has the rest of the rear body anti roll system finished. First up was to sleeve the RHS on the Hab Box base rails. Next up was to fit up the anti roll bar, and fabricate some additional support plates for where the anti roll bar mounts to the Hab Box base. While...

So, how does the red one have a flat floor with the V8 under it, yet yours has a hump with the smaller V6.. Is the V8 sat lower in the red one, or is the cab lower in the blue one?
