the way i see it, lockers are part of your "insurance" when going off-road, especially if you do travel solo sometimes. lockers are not only for rock crawling, but also for that short steep loose assent or drifted trail.

No, the post 1998 with the IFS have the same payload, at least for the mid-east/africa models.

the former hilux with the2L/2LT had a payload of 1900 pounds, they were sold with solid front axle until 1997, and then changed to ifs. whay is the payload for the Takoma?

don't know about europe, but there are lot's of good reasons to have a winch in the desert, specialy if you travel solo. a ground anchor is easy to use, and replace the lack of trees.. even if you travel with a friend, in many situations, winching is better then pulling with a strap.
