    Walking shoes

New Balance men's walking shoes were cheep at the rei online garage sale. I've never had a "Walking" shoe but my daily knocking around shoes were blown out. While walking on pavement your feet can squirm so much you must cinch the laces tight just so you foot stays over the middle of the sole...

How do I sew a sidewall.

I need to sew up an off road tire. A tractor inner tube is used in it so I'm not worried about leaks. Has anybody ever done it. Do I drill holes for the thread?

    "Get the lead out"

Drip, drip, drip. The end goal is to remove all lead from fisherman and hunters. There is no amount of lead in biology that is good. It makes humans dumber and kills smaller wildlife. What to do? Ban it? """A bill, AB 2787, was introduced into the California Legislature recently that would...

    Folding Outboard

I found a rare 4hp Evinrude that folds in half. Here it is sitting next to my regular version in the 3 hp flavor. Two release levers, a hinge and a split drive shaft with coupling let it fold. I just finished the refirb of the 3hp in December with the plan to keep it forever but now I...

Has anybody switched to a heavy steel bike and not minded the difference? Do you spend the time and money it costs to go lighter on components on a recreation bike?

Another vote for steel winch cable.

Broken steering box mount. Wratchet straps were not strong enough to hold it so the steel winch cable came out for the win. This Jeep was able to run the whole trail like nothing happened.

    Brompton Folding Bicycles

Has anybody ever ridden one of the little 20' folding bikes? They make them from $129 up to $5000 carbon fiber ones. Thought it might be nice to have on light excursions when I don't want to haul a full size bike. Any experiance with them or are they a joke? ** Update. Bought a Brompton!*...

    Leaf springs

I had a malfunction. Rebound clips severely limit droop and since I'm adding two of my old leafs into the new ARB spring pack I had to weld them longer. One clip is on one leaf and the other on the next. That's just how it worked out with the leafs on hand. Without the clips or the bolts...

    Wind resistant wide brim hats

I'm looking for a full brim hat that won't blow up in the wind and has a string for when it blows off. In the past I've seen mountaineering hats with a stiff brim that won't blow up and let your face sunburn but can't find them. I'm using an old Filson hat now but it's beat up heavy oiled canvas...

    What is an "Arsenal"

What do you call and what does the media and public think is a private arsenal? How about the courts? If a kid steals my rusty .22 and 400 rounds of "hollow point high velocity automatic ammunition" that sounds bad. Where is the threshold?

    Breathing stove gas.

Are any gasses for cooking in a tent or van any safer than another? Sometimes I leave the propane stove on in the morning to knock off the chill but could use the isobutane/propane mix if it's a little safer. I don't need to drag out the catalytic converter heater so it's only run until I can...
