    needed! Gen. 3 steering dimensions

Sorry it took longer than expected. I also cannot say these are exact as I would need to remove a few things to get the measuring tape along the steering rack. It looked like ~58" between the tie rod joint centers, and ~60" in overall length. I may be able to get more exact measurements later.

2003 Montero: Keep, Trade for 4Runner, or ???

Put some All Terrain Tires on the Gen 3 and go drive it. Only upgrade when you find something where it does not meet the challenge. I have stock ride height and 32" Toyo ATs. I will point mine towards any path that the Rubicons go, even ones where others turn back. I have never once gotten...

"Yoshi" - 2005 Limited Build & Adventure Thread

Thanks. I had used Fred Beans Parts a while ago, but they are gone. Now I usually split between RockAuto and wherever I can find the right OEM part. The dealerships around me are not the best source for parts, if they even know what I am asking.

Who have you been using as your source of original Mitsubishi parts? Most of my sources have started to go away in the last 5 years.

SOLVED: 3rd gen transmission stutter and momentary loss of power

ALso check for correct vacuum line placement and leaks. This caused poor performance in my 01 until the engine would warm up

Gen 3 Timing Belt job + spark plugs check list (3.8L)

Yep. Not for the faint of heart. Make sure you put a new o-ring on the metal pipe that enters the back of the water pump housing. It will eventually leak and you will have to take the whole intake off again to reach it.

Gen 3 Timing Belt job + spark plugs check list (3.8L)

I ordered the DNJ Intake Manifold/Plenum gasket kit. They have worked great on my 05. Some people have reported issues with the Fel-Pro valve cover gaskets, but I cannot confirm this.

Heads up: Early Gen III rear axle issue

It was a known issue with the cir-clips. Mitsubishi issued a TSB for this and sent a parts package to dealers for installation. It was never an official recall, so many trucks did not have it done or were not affected. The biggest tell is to see a slight leak of fluid from where either axle...

Mitsubishi truck coming back to the US?

The latest reports are that Mitsubishi has been given responsibility for the platform design of the truck that will be used in the Renault-Nissan group. This would make the next L200/Triton model the base for the Nissan Navara and possibly Frontier. I think that the Triton platform has proven...

2002 Mitsubishi Montero XLS 3.5L Engine Codes

You can get the FSM in my link below. It is probably the sensor as I just replaced mine as well. You can buy sensors from Rock Auto, eBay or OEM. I bought a set from eBay to replace the bank 1 sensor 1 issue. Working now with no issues for a few weeks. Make sure to clear the code with a...

    3rd gen towing help

The Gen 3 has a 5,000lb tow rating. I have routinely towed 3,000 lbs with mine on my 3500lb rated trailer. It will used 4th gear more to get up hills, but never let me down. The IRS will sag more than a solid axle over time, but this can be remedied easily with a set of helper air springs. I...

    New Mitsubishi Montero Owner

You will be very surprise and impressed by the off-road capabilities. I have been running 265/70/17 for a few years and have been happy. It does have some low hanging areas, but those can be addressed easily. The side steps can be removed easily along with the courtesy lights. Just make sure...
