Just Downsized to a Renegade (build and trips)

I finished off the dash cam install today. I found that the sun visor clip mount made a convienient mounting point for a thin strip of ali slipped behind the roof liner. The rest of the bracket I made up from a short piece of angle to mount the and scrap plate. This end was 3M taped to the...

The dash cam was another thing I removed from the WK but haven’t had time to refit to the BU, mostly because I like a nice permanent mount and wiring, rather than a suction cup and trailing wires. I wanted to mount the camera as high as possible whilst still being within the sweep of the wipers...

Just Downsized to a Renegade (build and trips)

I'm finishing off the dash cam install today, but before that and whilst I was in fabrication mood yesterday, I thought I’d knock-up some little hooks as anchor points for a strap to secure soft items in the recess behind the C pillar. It was actually a perfect fit for the first aid kit which...

Pics of the end result back in the Jeep. I accented the catches and tray support in red to follow the Trailhawk theme. Next up, dash cam install.

Right, back to Jeep stuff…. When I swapped to the Renegade it was only a few weeks before the trip to the Alps, so I basically swapped the drawer and fridge slide, and all the gear over from the WK as quickly and easily as possible with the minimum amount of modification. This all worked out...

Thanks jgaz, the level of organisation and cleanliness in the pit and paddock is fascinating to see. Here's another set of F1 pics before I get back to some Jeep activities.

Here are some of the pics from my F1 trip. First up, to keep it vaguely Jeep related, here's what FCA do with some of our money - I reckon after 4 Jeeps, two Chryslers, several Fiats and an Abarth, I've probably paid for at least few nuts and bolts over the years:D

Things have been a little slow on the Jeep front for various reasons but thought I'd do a bit of an update whilst we all ’confined to barracks’ on lockdown. Back in mid February I got a last minute call to go and service for a mate on a rally, which I was happy to do, despite the short notice...

Sorry for the late reply, I have been away for a couple of days in Barcelona (not with the Jeep!) and couldn't access the forum very easily due to a HD failure! So far the brackets are holding up well, but I can't say I've really stressed them with a car wash or similar. I would think they...

    Wildlife Photography

A red kite I managed to capture yesterday whilst out in the Jeep receding a rally route. I see that at a distance quite regularly, but this was the first time I actually had a camera with me and the time to stop and get a shot.

Spent yesterday fitting the other set of lamp brackets I made to my brother's Renegade. Instead of the Cibie LED's I have on mine he went for some KC Slimlites, which he had to order from the States. These are a tad smaller than the Cibies, but I think I actually prefer the look of them on the...

Just Downsized to a Renegade (build and trips)

The sun came out for a couple of this morning, so I thought I’d head out with the camera and check out another couple of lanes. The unsurfaced ones I looked at were predictable boggy , so I gave them a miss and stuck to the unclassified gravel surfaced roads. The rain returned after an hour or...

Yes, it was a tough decision for me to swap to the Renegade. I loved the WK but I was working on it quite a bit at more regular intervals (nothing major, just service and maintenance items) and had the big Alps trip planned. I think if I hadn't have spotted the Trailhawk in the local dealers...

Thanks jeepgc, and Happy New Year to you too. Your are more than welcome to come along on any of the trips. It would great to hear the rumble of a Hemi again without having to bear the expense:D I'm currently looking at putting together some day trips linking the local lanes together. I think...

Thanks all. My 'beater' camera body is actually about 8 years old and bought as 'water damaged' off eBay a few years ago for £20. Its was actually a decent entry level model in its day, but uses AA batteries that it eats quite quickly, especially in the cold, and they were half dead already. The...

Just Downsized to a Renegade (build and trips)

Happy New Year All! To get some fresh air after the festivities I went out on a recce/photo trip today to check out some green lanes in Warwickshire (similar to Leicestershire there are a lot of old Roman roads and sites.) But there's been a lot of rain over the last few weeks so most of the...

Just Downsized to a Renegade (build and trips)

Thanks jeepgc, I think I've got the Jeep more or less where I need it apart from some small additions. Just need to get some more trips planned - looking at returning to the Pyrenees and Andorra or possibly heading in the opposite direction to the Bodo and the arctic circle next year.

    Small efficient overlander

Another vote for the BU Renegade if you are looking for small, economical, comfortable, capable and fun. No need to go mad on the mods, just sensible tyres and whatever your need to suit your particular travelling and camping needs.

Hi Morgan, If I get a flat then I have to pull the draw and fridge slide out of their runners, undo 4 M6 bolts, then lift the drawer box out. It's a compromise but its not something I need to do very often (hopefully!) and its not much more of a pain than having to empty the boot/truck to...
