I actually have never hooked up at camp. The last thing my clumsy ass needs is a cord to induce a faceplant. I will be trying to be fully self sufficient with the solar. The G3500 is always plugged in when the trailer is at home. Cant wait to give this all a full test this weekend.
Thanks for the tips! I will be pre-chilling and loading up the fridge tonight for my trip tomorrow. I don't think I will have any frozen items this time around, I will have drinks dairy and some lunchmeats in there. If using it as just a fridge, what is the best temp to keep it at? I have...
Thanks man Im excited to give the fridge a full use test this weekend. I actually decided to ditch both coolers and attempt to go with just the fridge so that I could put my dry food crate next to it on the tray. The crate is always in the way of my kitchen drawers and to get into them I have to...
Yes the unit does have Load terminals but since I have not yet decided whether or not I am going to keep the panel out all the time I didnt mount the controller, thats why its in the box, and so I didnt want to complicate (and make a mess) my wiring. I honestly dont know where I was going with...
Might have to wait to test that this weekend with the fridge and fan and lights running and my 100Ah Renogy AMG discharging. After an hour of charging the 12Ah battery there is very little if any noticeable heat on the unit faceplate itself or the outside back of the box which the heatsink is...
Got lucky with some sun today so I can test mid day. Set the 2 panels up in series and the most I have seen so far is 113w in the app. It’s pulling good voltage I think, I just don’t think this little 12Ah battery is enough to really put the panels to the test. I’m letting it run an hour to...
Cool I will do some testing. I do not intend on running anything on the load terminals of this controller, strictly charging. My AMG is getting shore charge in the garage now so it won’t be useful for testing and my sonar battery will likely be close to full after an hour. That’s my only...
What if I cut out the entire back of the case minus a small rim to hold the unit in place? It’s not really for protection but to contain the unit nicely with a handle and something I can lock to my rig if necessary. I could also cut out some vent holes in the front.
It’s a tight fit so it’s basically just sitting in the box, I refrained from permanent mounting once I read the note about airflow in the manual when I first got all this stuff. Can it really get that hot with the gear I am using (I ask because I seriously don’t know first hand)? It never felt...
Heat is one of my concerns and I will be monitoring it closely during the first few tests in the field. The unit itself doesn’t have any vents or fans or openings for airflow. There is a heatsink on the back.
Got my wiring all redone for the solar. 12/2 landscape wire + Anderson PowerPole connectors as recommended! Too bad I finished too late to test today. Excited to finally be "done" with this part. Packs down really small too!
Question about the temp sensor. How helpful is it and how does it work? If the battery runs warm it sends less power? Is it truly beneficial or marginal gain in performance?
I recommend anything Big Agnes, they will replace stuff after you break it 20 years down the road. Expensive but it will last you and the quality of materials is at the top.
My Aims Power 120W foldable came without a controller, 2nd one arrives today, I will be wiring them just like you stated but with my Renogy 30A Rover MPPT controller! Giggity!
