So since I was dead in the water for a little while I decided to inspect the bearings and replace all the seals in the axle. It appears the bearings were replaced one already and the look new still. So replace the seals and start replacing u-joints.
SoI I welded the modified Barnes 4wd bracket on in the wrong spot after tacking it on and knocking it off to make adjustments to the bracket and being called out to work 4 times that day I was tired and rushed and instead of tacking and cycle the axle one more I just put it up there and burned...
I will keep it I bought a cable actuator for it. At the largest 35s will be it. There is a local farmer that bought an off edition truck as soon as the were available I think in 2000 the same weekend he lifted it and put 37s on it. They use it as a farm truck. It’s got the same axle I bought...
the cost of one tons!... I have 150bucks in the front axle that is way stronger than the oem IFS, and I can keep my abs happy by using the oem unit bearings and wheel speed sensors. also I could keep my current wheels. plan on keeping 33-35" tires.
but if I break it a 2500 or 3500 dodge axle...
Yeah we are on a first name basis!...LOL I was the first one to commit to the swap after he started sharing it with everone...so far it has taken me longer to complete mine than anyone else, I believe there are 6 on the road at the moment. @tahoverlandingaxleswap on instagram. Although I have...
33’s on my burb has taken me down trails where people wouldn’t believe in the ozarks but I did blow out the front diff and trashed the g80 rear locker.
Cut the ends off the transmission mount welded in 1/4” plate and installed the control arm mounts there this will make my links the same length and on the same swing as the drive shaft. I still need to play the sides but this a start.
Finished the frame plates and butchered a Barnes 4wd track bar bracket to fit my needs the upper track bar mount is as high and as far out as it could possibly be.
Fit the WFO frame plates a little better welded on the coil buckets to it and tacked the frame plates back on. Just a spoiler the locating dowels all broke off.
More on the burb. I swear I have adhd I can’t complete anything in one go. That’s about 4” higher than bump will actually be and everything clears so well you can’t say it’s not meant to be.
I’m still at this point. I did get the center line figured out but in other news I started a lawnmower/go kart build for my boy and it’s almost done so it won’t be long before I’m back at it. Here is a teaser on the mower.
