On Saturday I flew to AZ and bought a 98 and have been driving it back to NC. Currently in Austin for a couple days. Loving it so far. It needs the front end tightened up and front cam seals.

So the starter died? Ever figure out what the buzzing under the dash was?

thanks for the replies. I was thinking the high power 82 because I am often in steep, narrow valleys/canyons and many in the east have very thick vegetation, so i was thinking that the extra 2 watts (with a better antenna) might at least be a help. I know it is minimal.

I clicked on this because you were working on a beater, and then saw you are also in Asheville. I taught at the Expo. I ride what most would call a beater bike, an 05 400 EXC. Thanks for sharing your project.

Received my General license last week. Looking for (at least a dual band) HT and will be shopping for a mobile with crossband repeater feature in the future. I tend to like the UV 82 form better, due to reports of better build quality, better speaker (I am hearing impaired), dual PTT buttons...

KC1GLI Charly I travel and teach across the US. Often in western NC. Will be mostly on 2m/70cm, maybe 1.25m (still researching a radio). Just took my Tech and General exams yesterday, started at 1000 hours. Had my call sign by 1230. I didn't know they could happen that fast

I am really liking hamstudy.org, especially due to the explanations found with each test question.

Never tried them in a 4 wheeled vehicle but I use an ADVMonster H4R3 in a Hella reflector setup that i fabbed on my KTM EXC that works wonderfully.
