    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

I like the look of that setup. The pipe from the passenger side is nice and tight up to the trans where it crosses over. I checked out some videos on YouTube of different mufflers and found this one with the Flowmaster Pro Series, which is like a straight muffler but with some interesting...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

Unfortunately I'll have rock sliders there, so it's gonna have to go out the side behind the rear tires, which means up and over the rear axle. I found a shot of what looks like a nice setup from a forum that I think said it was a kit that they modified a bit. I don't like the exit out the back...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

Little bit of good news this morning! I talked to Troy over at Howell EFI and he said I could simply tape back the unused connectors; no swapping out harnesses needed. I'll have to send in the PCM to get the EVAP and rear 02 sensors flashed out, but that's a minor inconvenience and cost...

Another evening, another layer of primer.

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

Thanks, yeah it's getting the job done for sure. Once I wrap up these pieces it'll switch to a clean-up booth for the frame and transfer case. Then back to a paint booth for the frame. :) I got some box fans and HVAC filters to make it all fancy and what not, but I think I'm going to hold off on...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

Spent some time today priming more parts. Still not the greatest spray atomization, but I just wanted to get these things started. This week will be more of the same plus some progress on further pulling stuff off the frame. On a side note I swapped my manual hose real for an auto one. Soooooo...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

The primer is a rust inhibitor, but I'll be doing my best to take care of any rust before painting. The frame is all in all pretty good, it's really the underbody that's going to pose some issues... we'll see. I can't recall where we got the car port... I think HF sells them... this is a Costco...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

I've been out of town most of this last week, so not much progress to show. Yesterday I did take some time to get setup for painting stuff. This is the first time I'll be using an HVLP gun, so I'm pretty excited about it. Fortunately my wife has been using one for painting various craft stuff...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

So is this just map tuning or are there other options with these PCMs? Since I don't have to worry about CARB nonsense any more I'm very curious to try more tuning I wouldn't otherwise do. I'm also less concerned about the DBW overall since I have an auto and don't need to worry about rpm...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

Welp, I'm in it now... PCM and harness from Howell were already setup that way, so just gonna have to make the best of it and see.

Offroad & Overland Amateur Radio Net - Bay Area + IRLP

Great news for anyone who hasn't been able to use IRLP to connect remotely: barring any unforeseen issues, we should have Echolink active on the repeater by 6/1, possibly as early as next week's net! :wings: So, if you've been wanting to join from outside the Bay Area, and don't have access to...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

Woot! Just scored a 6.5L gas pedal on eBay for $75 shipped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/112414440801 WAAAAAY better than busting out almost $300 for a new one from RockAuto.

Hmmm... that's a few votes for keeping the stock cluster then. None the less, the tach would be nice to have as well, so I think I'll take you up on that gauge you've posted below. Will pm you. I'm sure it should be easy enough to adapt even if it isn't plug and play... I'll be sure to look...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

Another day, and more progress. Couple hours of work last night saw the axles removed. And parts keep rolling in the door. Today brought these super trick Taylor spark plug wires. In the second to last shot you can see the years of gunk built up on the transfer case. That thing is getting a...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

Actually, since I have to create a VSS signal out of the transfer case for the PCM to run the 4L80e I have a Dakota Digital in-line signal generator and universal signal interface. The interface has ports for connecting up to 5 outputs. So I could switch to using a VSS speedo instead of cable...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

Nice, thanks Larry, but getting rid of the oil line into the cab (potentially leaking all over) is another reason to switch gauges. Definitely not a "have to do" thing, more of a "want to do." And since I'm already doing a pretty extensive set of tweaks anyway... why not. Likely I'll just find a...

    The Camp 4x4 Bus - 1973 Suburban 8.1 Swap & Build

If I do need to pull a gauge cluster I may just roll up to Newark and pull a whole list of things from this guy: http://row52.com/Vehicle/Index/1G8GC26W3GF102147 - Hydroboost brake booster - Steering column - Gauges .... other stuff maybe.
