That's pretty slick, but from what I can tell the intake on the 8.1 is going to come pretty durn close to the hood, so I'm gonna need all the height I can get...
Oh yeah? Deadlines are good. I'm already gettin' on it.
Spent two hours with it after work today. Started by trying to remove the hood, until I realized it's insanely heavy (I should have guessed) and awkward. So, I turned my attention to the engine. For now, rather than buying a stand, the...
Okay, today wasn't much more than getting the engine down there, organizing the parts and checking the RPO codes. Found 'em on the driver-side wheel well. They say the exact same as the build sheet posted above. So not much extra help there. I meant to roll under the truck and check out the...
Got the 8.1 out of the garage and into a trailer today. Gonna get it into the shop tomorrow. Been in the garage for the better part of the year. Happy to get it closer to being into the a truck finally!
Okay, so here's the original build sheet. Was in the original owners manual in the glove box. No RPO code sheet in the box though. My buddy who's at the shop and took the picture didn't poke around many other places so I may have to hunt a bit to find more.
I will be PUMPED if it has the 205! I honestly didn't look underneath or at the RPO codes. Happy to snap a pic of those when I check it out. MF4 would be 205 and NP8 is 203, yeah?
As the shirt attests, I'm a Chicagoan, so I've seen rust! :Wow1:
But yeah, it is definitely something I'll be looking out for as I start taking things apart. As for what I can see now, it is all in the white area of the paint and not really to the point where panel replacement is needed. So, my...
Picking up the project gallery
Here's a bunch of photos from picking it up in Flagstaff. That was a hulluva trip. Drove out from San Jose on Saturday. Picked up the truck and trailered it back on Sunday. 14 hours each way. Sheesh. Still less of a headache than dealing with transport brokers...
A few have asked for a build thread on my upcoming project, so, here it is. :wings:
I'll also be posting photos regularly on my Instagram account - @Camp4x4

For the last few years I've been building a 1987 Chevy Suburban into a fantastic truck for camping and moderate to extreme off...
For anyone in the Santa Rosa area, we got the go ahead to use W6SON repeater for connecting via IRLP. If you can hit it - 441.375 + pl 88.5 - go ahead an punch in 9351 to connect up to the reflector at net time.
Ha! Yeah, didn't think Bozeman would work out. If you're in tight with a club that runs a repeater and that repeater is somewhere near a phone line that can provide internet access, it isn't terribly hard to get an IRLP node setup...
There's a significant difference in the two services: Echolink you can use from your phone or computer. IRLP requires you to use a repeater to access either another repeater or a reflector. We use a reflector which allows multiple repeaters to be connected at once. So that's what the 9351 node #...
2 things: that repeater's Echolink node has a whitelist, so you have to request access prior to using it. Also, IRLP and EchoLink are typically (and in this case are) exclusive when in use; only one or the other can be used at a time.
For this net we use IRLP, so EchoLink will be disabled.
Sorry about that! We couldn't get connected to IRLP on our end last night. I've asked the repeater owner to look into it. I'll post up again once it's fixed.
No.
I take it you somehow got like a text list of coordinates? Unfortunately that's not terribly useful. There are sites that'll covert that for you but it's a PITA...
