The traffic south of Ganzaga is pretty low. In fact, this was it!
Out in the middle of nowhere you'll find Coco's Corner. Coco is a staple in the off-road world as far as Baja is concerned. I've been visiting him since I was working for Tim Morton's Baja Bound (bajaboundmoto.com) in the late...
The sun was starting to set so we decided to spend the night in Gonzaga Bay. There was a mini-mart on the right of the highway where we paid for a spot to camp on the beach. There were quite a few other Americans already there...it was fun!
We awoke to the sun rising over the Sea of Cortez and...
The beach was cool but we had lots of stuff to see, so we bugged out and did a little more exploring on our way back to HWY 5.
This guy was keeping a close eye on us.
Even the highway scenery is amazing.
You'll find these military checkpoints in Baja...nothing to fear, these...
Lots of abandoned vehicles, boats, trailers...and doggies.
We headed out a different way we came in, mostly because we never found what we were looking for.
After this dilapidated entrance art (and feeding a couple stray dogs), we turned left (south) on to HWY 5.
Pessimist.
Optimist...
My late friend, Ramsey El Wardani (Agile Offroad), suggested we turn left after the big cactus. YEAH RIGHT! LOL! We looked for this secret beach/camp spot for hours...still saw some great stuff though.
I'm a van guy but this is taking it too far.
This was an inside joke...I HATE leaving home with a dirty van! Many times I've washed the van in the middle of the night before a trip, but not this time. My work schedule gets crazy and I just didn't have time, but no big deal, there are tons of car washes in Baja.
The only problem with...
So there we were, in a little bit of a predicament again...alone, AGAIN!! I really need to get a winch!
Anyway, I'll get back to that in a bit.
Our trip really started on January 1st when we crossed the border into Mexicali. Have you ever seen ads against drunk driving, or what happens when...
Those pictures are outstanding! I wonder how long it takes to build a wall that significant?
What do you do if the water gets much deeper? Do your door seals keep it out?
Let's plan something for 2017. Maybe you could come to Baja with us from 1/8 - 1/17? We are going to work our way down to...
Great shots! I can't believe you went down that trail (from the falls) by yourself! I've done it on a dirtbike but it's been a while. I'm thinking that would be a fun challenge in my van! And how cold was that water!?
I cannot wait to get back there, I've only been once! Thanks for posting this report. I got into some situations but the scenery was amazing.
When is our next trip? lol
You can see the van across the lake. Surprisingly (lol) no other vans were there!
Looks like I found my next adventure (after Alaska!) My van and trailer are going to struggle. It'll be fantastic!
And thank you for posting this. You have made me want to go there immediately!
I forgot to address the Gear Vendors. I've put a lot of miles on one. It was problematic in my application but I was towing a ton of weight, like 14 tons! I liked it for the gear splitting. It will add more electronics to your van. I did have a couple of small problems with mine in that regard...
As far as your 2500 miles per year thing...I think Boomer should come out west for a winter. You could leave him at my place and we could explore Utah, Death Valley, and Baja (3 different trips). We could avoid lifting tires! I'd love to go on a couple of your trips as well.
It's unfortunate...
I just read your thread from start to finish. I'm in awe of your abilities. Your work ethic is something to be admired! AMAZING!
Here are a couple ideas to float around. GM 14 Bolt rear ends are cheap, bullet proof (full float), and fit right in our vans (width-wise). I have a disk brake...
