Shortly after getting back on the Burr Trail, we hit this big grade called the Burr Trail Switchbacks. They weren't lying, there's a bunch of them. Apparently Kristal doesn't like heights much, so we didn't grab many pictures. It would've looked way cooler if we were going up, but they were...
If you are ever in the neighborhood, and you see this sign, do yourself a favor and follow it!
Once you reach the end of the trail, there is a hiking trail that takes you to an amazing overlook. It looks like it was graded from God himself. I don't know if it was...
Thanks again, guys!
Ok...so I left off at sunrise on day 4. Kristal and I were glad to see some sunshine after constant rain all night. We were still by ourselves but planned on meeting Dennis and Kyle around lunch. We had some obstacles to deal with and we weren't sure how much damage the rain...
Thanks again!
Our country is being overrun by people who lack common sense and respect. And, because of the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality, the rules and laws get changed to accommodate such fools, but the ones who really suffer are the intelligent people who don't needs laws to decide from...
Day 4
October 30th
We woke up to an amazing view (as usual on this trip)! I'll post up a couple panoramic pictures of camp to see if they work. The other pictures are from camp as well.
This one you can see the sun and the moon...
I'm really happy with my set-up...been wanting this since I...
I'm all about safety now, Mike.
Seriously, get your Scout ready. There are more trips on the horizon and this was so fun and exciting. I was thinking you could get a trailer like mine and put one of those fold out topper tents on it for the family. It would be soooo cool! Or convert your van to...
As the night grew darker, we couldn't take pictures but the trail/wash got retarded. We were rock crawling the van in this huge, sandy wash...in the rain. As much as I wanted to camp there, it wouldn't have been smart (flash flood possible), so we turned around and found some higher ground. I...
HWY 12 led us to Burr Trail and Moody Canyons, which is all part of the Wolverine Loop (I believe.) Horse Canyon looked to be a real fun one, but it is closed now.
For quite a while there weren't any challenging obstacles but it was a great drive. For as much rain as we were in, I expected more...
Day 3
October 29th
We left Hole In The Rock in a light rain and headed for Escalante to fuel up, eat, and discuss where exactly we were going over the next few days. Like I said, we were sort of following someone else's trip report...but mostly we were winging it!
The rain started coming down...
Sorry for taking so long. I'm getting my truck ready for a 10k mile trip before Christmas (I'm a truck driver)...leaving tonight.
I'll post some pics up in a few minutes.
Keep posting please!
What air pressure do you air down to? And have you been to the States? I could be wrong, but I believe I've heard the sand over there is much finer than what we have here.
Thanks Rusty!
What about the drone shots? What set up do you have, and would you go a different route if you were buying today? Does yours have the ability to follow you, and is that a good thing or not?
Sorry for all the questions! You can PM me if you don't want to clutter up your...
I hope those pics are working!
I wouldn't push the Agile kit as hard as I do if it didn't work as well as it does. I've said it before and I'm not kidding, it's the best money I've ever spent on a modification.
After Left Hand Collet, we made our way to Hole In The Rock. The speed limit was posted at 35...but it was WAY too smooth for that. It was a fun road and we made good time until we passed the grader.
Most people would never drive through this without a four wheel drive. Heck, at first I was...
That part of the trip is still a couple days away, and it was spread out over 3 different ordeals. Here's a sneak peek though...we had to drive up this!
So...we're still on Day 2 and we roll into Left Hand Collet. This was promising to be a great canyon and it did not disappoint.
...and back to this like nothing happened!
Something I forgot to mention in the first post was how difficult it was to average 10mph! That's over a span of 7 days!!! The trails were full of rain ruts so I dropped the air pressure down to 10psi (from the normal 15psi). Actually, that's a lie! I dropped to 10psi to keep from losing my van...
Thanks Lance! You still have your van?
Our camps were extremely simple; a couple lawn chairs, water jug on the tailgate, shower bag hung off the shovel handle (which was zip tied to the rear canopy support), and plenty of firewood and beer! LOL.
With a van and trailer, we had plenty of room...
