Yeah it’s semi permanent. The rear end of the rack is connected to an L bracket that is bolted to the bed rails. Currently the front of the rail is attached to the factory racks but I will delete those and hard mount to the roof.
I just rebuilt the tonneau cover because it leaked and after...
THanks...I'll check out his build.
So far i've only spacer'd and leveled the truck. I need to gain another 2" so may just go with a 4" lift kit so that it will level with the trailer.
I had a bunch of this aluminum sitting around and didn't want to deal with rust with steel. Its pretty...
Been contemplating this for a while after my trailer build and after camping this past week in the back country in mammoth I realized how much I need it.
Spent the past week thinking it through and still not done but here is the start.
Picking up some materials for the sides of the front part...
I use the newer Lock n Roll and it handles really well. Have had no issues backing up but I always back up carefully. I also like the thought that a thief has scratch his head to figure out how to get it mounted on his ball hitch. Granted the resourceful thief could figure it out but most...
Hey Silvr...its all good until surprise number 4 comes along....and then they become teenagers and you're stuck in a whole bigger project. HA! Looks cool otherwise. I had a coleman popup before I built my hard side and I retrofitted a linear actuator on the lift cables and ditched the cable...
I hear you but after years of working in Airstreams it certainly takes due diligence to make sure of the things you are describing which I know for a fact Airstream doesn't in a lot of cases. Just wanted to make sure he was aware of taking the precautions

I hope you separated the steel and aluminum by the bead of caulk or some other barrier. Even water that leaks into the screw hole and contacts both the steel and aluminum can cause galvanic corrosion and either the screw will weaken or be impossible to unscrew. condensation is also an enemy if...
I think it is an awesome base to start with depending on how much and how serious off road you will be. If so you'll probably need to weld more support to the frame but certainly consider doing a teardrop type set up as well because it looks like that bed is quite large for two people (or if...
I went the opposite way of most and bought 5 lug rims even though my tow vehicle is 6 lug.**Saving money was paramount so if you're buying off road tires you know you could be at no less than 250.00 per wheel in tires alone if you're going with something big.**Add the cost of rims and a spare...
I run 305/55/r20 on the trailer with massive treads and a 2000lb trailer. On my winter test runs up to mammoth without trailer I use exactly half a tank (at least according to my gauge) each time I go which is about 330 miles from Los Angeles with about 10% of the driving on 6% uphill grade...
I think tilting actually has more to do with the size of your battery bank. If you're using one battery and running LED's and an efficient fridge, water pump etc. a 50-60 amp hour battery should be sufficient for over night use for multiple days as even if you don't tilt your solar controller...
I use the tekonsha P3 and it works great. using the boost or adjusting the sensitivity helps but you'll probably find you'll use different settings for highway, grade driving, city driving, and off road. If I use my downhill settings in the city the trailer brakes are so strong that they tug...
I know this should be more of a trip report than a build blog but it will be actually more of a TSA on towing and car trouble.
Basically on our last trip to Seattle the truck troubles pointed to ethanol in my gas at about 75%. Sounds stupid because my truck is flex fuel. The gas may have...
They're designed to get hot. If the casing gets sun baked it shouldn't be a big deal but dust in the burner and coils might eventually cake the system with a nice layer of soot that might cause issues. Just make a cover for it if mounted to the exterior.

Also check out the Utility trailer build Post build thread. He mounted the heater assembly on the outside and his solution might work for you as well. You're just gonna need tees regardless if you want to plumb hot to the sink

Mine is permanently mounted in the compartment on the top left of the picture. You can see the lines coming out of the shower door on the bottom. When the heater is on I just open the top hatch for ventilation.

Been pretty busy with my Airstream project but found some time to put a step on the trailer. We had been using a folding stool that worked ok but this makes it much easier to fold down and retract. If we need more clearance it'll fold up as well but it will hang down about as low as the water...
So the Los Angeles to Seattle trip was mostly positive except for the truck issues. Looks like I'll be needing a new fuel pump.
My biggest concerns were driving through the dust and have dirt and debris get into camper and winds blowing into the trailer and howling and whistling anywhere the...
