I now have about 6,000 miles on my Agile Offroad RIP kit.
What a night and day difference. I had the Ford "death wobble" when going about 65mph into a slight right turn and hitting small bumps - VERY SCARY.
After the install my van is now safe and actually fun to drive. I've had it off road a...
NOTE: I sold this full rig last year, but the owner is now selling the FlipPac - if you are interested I will put you in touch with him!
We went with a van recently, so selling my truck setup. Sacramento/Central California area.
2004 Nissan Titan LE Crewcab 4wd with (or without) FlipPac camper...
My biggest gripe is the cost and the fact that they don't do at least round-ish windows... charge a lot for simple square (undersized?) windows, and as mentioned for that price you have to seal your own seams.
I would almost see about a custom built one next time around...
Cheers
I know many of us would like to know who made the tents for FlipPac. I made some calls myself, but was a dead end... someone had some leads, but I never did hear anything definitive.
I think if they followed the FlipPac design (no bigger footprint, but vastly larger when open) I'd be very interested in a "quality" version of the FlipPac... yeah, I know: "Habitat"!.. but $9,000+ is too much... and I like the FlipPac's forward folding design - I don't have to worry about any...
Glad to see these are working out... I was worried about the extra tight fit when it clamps shut (the new SAW hinges are on-center different by .18" and make it clamp the front tighter - a variance from the prototypes I was sent vs the final production units)... but if it is working without...
Awesome re-do! The FlipPac although a very great design suffered from a lot of quality control issues... looks like you went way above and beyond - nice :-)
Hard to tell, using torsion bar or just hinge bolts?
UPDATE: I talked to Sway-a-way again today, they have 3 full installs with this batch of hinges.... Even though it will compress the foam seal more than stock I am going to give these a try :) When I get it going I will post pic's
Also, let me clarify: Down at Sway-A-Way they have done an install with the hinges the way they are and say it fits, it just squeezes the gasket more.... and yes, I can see that it will work but it will squeeze the foam gasket an extra almost 3/16"... maybe that is not a bad thing I just do not...
Quote from NMC_EXP
"Mountain bikers are, as a demographic group, fit the profile of off-road vehicle users. They are predominately male, between 20-40, and tend to have above average incomes and often have the same outlaw attitude and sense of entitlement."
You are very off target on that...
There was mention of this in the "FlipPac parts" thread, but I wanted to be sure everyone saw this :-)
I have been helping Sway-A-Way who makes the replacement torsion bars for the FlipPac on re-designed replacement hinge sets.
I have fitted the prototype blanks on my FlipPack and will be...
Looks cool and well designed... but they "stopped short"... meaning I wish they had it flip all the way open 180 degrees like the FlipPac.... THEN you'd really have something I'd be interested in :-)
I would wait for failure.... there is no evidence it WILL fail, there just seem to be batches that were prone to failure - at least in my reading. My only thought might be if your FlipPac came from a real wet climate?.... then you might have a point. You can certainly make due out in the field...
