I think a Samurai is too small for a long range expedition rig.
I have had a CJ-5, YJ, TJ and pick-up trucks.
Even a Jeep is pushing it for space on extended trips.
Been there done that.
Space and safety and ride are important.
The larger Action Packers can be heavy beasts when loaded with heavy items like water jugs, gerry cans, canned food etc.
If you use all the same size boxes/Action Packers in the back of your rig you can sleep on them in a pinch.
How much spare time do you have to put in the project and what are your plans for the FJ40?
If you can't do most of the work yourself plan on paying big bucks to get it done.
I would pass on this one and get a newer model in better shape.
Your money might better spent on your 4 Runner.
I would take a look at how SFA Chevy trucks have the sway bar set up and make your van's similar to that.
If you have lifted your van you may also need longer or adjustable links.
