So along with the lift I had wanted to put in some recovery tow points and a class 3 trailer hitch. I have been bumbling around on the internet and found 2 reference points where they welded on a 3/4" plate across the end of the chassis. I think the greatest load could possibly be during...
Thanks, that is, as they say in Asia "same, same but different" (was pretty dangerous when you heard that ;)) to the process we did using Autodesk 360 instead of MeshLab. The problem that Drew (the water jet guy) ran into is that Sketchup had a lot of extra lines (not sure what to call them)...
What weight rating winch did you get? I am guessing the total weight with tire and bike (tire ~200lbs, bike 280lbs) will be less than 1000lbs. They have the 2500 on sale now for very cheap ($50, might as well by 2) and since the cable would be run from the chassis to the top of the lift to a...
Thanks for the generous offer. From what the water jet guy told me SolidWorks does not take a Sketchup File (which is what I am most familiar with), any chance you know of a good conversion? I ended up importing the sketchup into Autodesk 360, convert to stl (tried the dfx but the 360 dxf would...
Nice design! Any thought about how to lock it in place while traveling? I could probably even "borrow" your design and add in a platform for the tire/motorbike to sit on. Any thoughts though on the amount of stress on the lower pivot point? Not being an engineer designing something like this is...
Hey all, did some more CAD (this time cardboard aided design) to try and get the geometry and lengths right. Found that the arms need to be a bit shorter than I had hoped. With the design below, in the full down position it is still about 10" above ground. To try and keep ground clearance I did...
Good advice, weight wise our tire/rims are way lighter than yours. We have single piece 22.5" steel rims with 385/65R22.5" tires. Have not weighed them but I am guessing around half the weight? Even with that I will try and work a way to have them vertical by the time they hit the ground.
Thanks DiploStrat for the composting medium pointer. We are not yet at the point of using the toilet but when we do I will look into it. Ours shipped with a compressed brick of coconut fiber to start us going.
Thanks Andreas for the compliment. Been a lot of work but we are starting to get...
We are going with a Webasto TSL17 and a marine 6 gallon water heater. I also have a 700 watt 12v DC element for the water heater (1,000 watts of solar). Plan is to have a plate heat exchanger in between the engine cooling circuit and habitat. That way in cold temps the engine heat can be used to...
We skipped the black water tank and installed an AirHead (more compact than the Natures Head) composting head. It is in place now with only PVC cement for hoses and a bit of wiring for the vent fan left. I am planning once the cabinet work is complete then the wiring/plumbing will start. The...
Yup, you will need to be on the bed to open the cabinets. We are sort of used to that as we have lived on a boat for the last 20 years. Sort of a trade off, but one we are willing to make for more storage. Under the bed is the "gear garage", space for folding bikes, inflatable kayak and...
Quick update then off to dinner with friends. Got the bathroom door hung finally. Made the door from the honeycomb wall panel cutout. A bit of a pain but it is in now.
Bathroom is shaping up, flooring installed, Airhead toilet mounted and vented thru the floor, vanity door in
Headboard...
On our 1120 we are building a 17' (just over 5m) habitat. It does have a slight angle at the rear, much like the trucks you took pictures of. One thing while trying to make a decision on which truck I tried to get a rough idea of fuel mileage. The only trucks I knew that were sort of similar had...
Thanks guys, well this is now sounding like a bit more work. Serves me right for thinking it might be an easy one ;). I will look into the minimum roof thickness for this unit. I do know that the roof stamping for the hatch (which we do not have) is larger than the unit. Would have been perfect...
Thanks Wyuna for the tips. As far as cab sound deadening we already did that with a 100 square foot kit of Rattle Trap Extreme. Would have been great to have cut the hole prior to our total cab refresh (cab paint, recovered headliner and rear wall, carpet on floor, painted all dash and door...
OK, finally decided on which path to take. I am now waiting on a retailer of Dometic in Spain to send me a Paypal invoice for a Dometic RTX 2000 24v DC rooftop A/C for our cab. One thing though our truck did not come with a roof hatch so I will need to cut the opening. Would have been really...
So the kitchen cabinet doors are in, just got the drawers to make and I need to get another sheet of plywood to make them (2 hour drive each way). I cut the bathroom flooring and Heather will bond it in place today (using liquid nails construction adhesive as it is not structural and I really...
Kind of just dawned on me. One of the reasons I had thought a hinged rack that swings down would not work was that the 45 degree angle on the back of our truck is much smaller than all the trucks I see this kind of lift with (the arm would be too short to swing to the ground if the pivot point...
We might just surprise you, we spent 6 months on the east coast of Australia with the sailboat and loved it. One of our goals with this truck is to return and spend more time there, we had a blast. This time we need to see the west, north and south coasts with a bit of travel inland.
YAC! A new acronym, short for "yet another cabinet". Also sounds a bit like how we are starting to feel about building them. This one is the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. It still needs the doors, which will be FRP/plywood like the ones in the bed area (having a hard time calling it a...
