I wouldn’t stress the timing belt. A Toyota mechanic I use said he has seen the original belt go for over 20000. Avg for replacement was in the 150-160 range.
Once again all manufacturers have rust issues. All of them. Just saw a newer 2010ish ram 2500 yesterday full of rust. The wheel wells were all bubbled and frame rusting. But only Toyota has issues. When’s the last time you’ve seen an old hilux running around. They have rust as well. Hell I live...
That 78 Ford is the exception not the reality. Very few of those trucks are being used on a daily basis. Older trucks are not stronger than newer trucks.

Would the cost outweigh the sales? Probably not. I love my tundra and I would also love a 70 series. You can import one as long as it’s 25 years old. It’s easy to find them.
The military and certain manufacturers purposely seal gas engines up for long fording. Just because keep has a wading depth advertised as stated above is for quick dunks. I think Nissan in the l60 patrol is the only civilian truck that’s designed from the factory for actual fording.
Because a truck rides smooth it’s not a truck? My unimog is the smoothest riding trucks I’ve been in but it’s the toughest most capable truck in the world. It also uses a car engine but it’s a purpose built off-road truck.
