You're doing it right, gut it and start from scratch but take your time to plan everything ahead of time. No need to rush... I did much better planning on my 2nd one and I'm sure glad I took my time. Some call it procrastination, I call it proper planning ;)
As for insulation, 2"foam boards are...
An easy step completed, cleaned up all the welds and scratched the paint with 40 grits so the paint sticks better...
Next is paint :)

I've already started a separate post for my custom aluminum poptop here: https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/hambo-aluminum-poptop.228606/ and while waiting for the right time to dig deeper into this project I started another project that I hoped to do on my 1st ambo but never really...
Just looking at your last picture, are you using that rubber hose for your diesel heater (with the clear filter)? As far as I know using this type of hose would end up crusting up your heater in no time...
Pretty cool Ian!
Glad you cut your floor for your tank access. For your info, the auxiliary port works great for the diesel heater but as I quickly found out it cuts off around the 1/4 tank ;) (safety measure). I'm now using Afterburner with my diesel heater and that little marvel is a game...
Thank you guys!
Not sure about dancing on it, wont have much space left once I mount the 660w of solar panels.
It won't be light either, I'm guessing close to 200lbs plus another 100lbs of solar or so.
That's why I'll be using electric actuators to raise and lower it. :D
I insulated the...
Poptop V.2
Some might recall my 1st poptop on my previous ambo (AmbuLand).
It was simply a fiberglass RTT that I had cut the floor to create a pass-through. Worked well enough, much cheaper than other options (CCV...). One thing that I didn't like with that design was closing it back to...
Saw your post on FB earlier, nice score! Its fun to figure something else than the typical Aluminess for us DIY guys :)

Bump for an awesome ambo! A bit surprised you're already selling it, to me that would be a keeper!!!
Did you mentioned where it's located, BC?
Good luck!

Looking great! That divider at the front is pretty cool.
For sure, go with the Maxxair 7500, we'll worth the investment! I had lower model before and ended up upgrading down the road...

We did coil on mine and it was more involved. On the leafs, once we figured out which leafs to use the ride is good as the coils...

And on another note, here are various pictures of current projects... I'm sure you can all guess what this is! I have another identical one that will get welded together... Can't wait to get that one off the bucket list!
Also boxed in the space for the custom composting toilet and added a...
We went for another 3 weeks on the Island, had a blast and met some new amazing friends along the way! That Bigfoot is a 1984 Steyr, an ex-military truck from Austria. It belongs to friends of mine from Quebec (originally from France). They are slowly (53mph cruising speed) making their way to...
I helped build the interior on that ambo and my best mate Laurentiu built the rest. He's the one who helped me build the 4x4 on my current one :)
It just sold last week.
Thanks!
Yes, both my previous ambo and this one have seating for four. This one has a permanent bed at the back and a dinette in the middle (with two 3 points seatbelts on the forward facing bench).

It's way overpriced! Worth maybe $8k usd max. Come to BC Canada, we have tons of those. I had one, surprisingly good offraod, just underpowered. I liked it but it definitely had its limitations.
