We also have a simple canopy which we use by opening both doors to a 90 and I have a tent rod between doors on outer edge to support the awning and tie it to the van, I like this also for quick back door sun and night time camping.

If you saw the problems my brother in law has with their Toyota Van with auto sliding doors and how they close sooooo slow !! and that they work some times and not sometimes, you might not want auto or motor driven sliding door.
Maybe a power assist type spring or Hydraulics may be the answer...
