I was hoping to find one at the local hardware store but I had to settle for a manual tap. That is painful so I have two 1/4-20 combo taps on the way already. Definitely planning on going easy on the bits but figured I'd get a second one just in case.
The regular camper looks like the cabover portion is attached to the box of the rest of the camper. The AF camper is more like a bigger top is attached to the top of the camper that goes all the way from the cabover thru the bed. The AF cannot have extra bedding height but you can do two tone...
I'm in the thick of my interior build out!
There's more in my build thread here: https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/the-blue-06-tundra-dc-limited-backcountry-camping-build-adventure-thread.217522/post-3028006
Which brings me to this week. The OVRLND camper comes as a shell. There's really nothing but a platform for a bed in it. This was part of the allure to me. I look at it as an awesome blank canvas to build out the adventure rig of my dreams and that's exactly what I'm working on now. I mocked up...
Let's fast forward a little bit more than a year. It was a busy time with a newborn kid and not as much time for adventure. Any adventure we had was via airplane and mostly to share the new baby with the family. But in late 2021, I sold my spot for my Vagabond Outdoors Nomad wedge camper. I just...
I'm going to play a bit of catchup on this build thread because things are quickly escalating with the build so expect a lot more posts.
Moab 2020
Hot off our trip to the San Juan Mountains in SW Colorado, we headed to Moab to drive the White Rim Trail (and see some of the other sites in this...
On the drivers side it'll be a sliding window. Mostly this is for the dogs but I figure it'll also be nice to get some light in. On the passenger side there'll be a flip up hatch. The 270 awning will be on the passenger side. I'll definitely be sharing more in the next few weeks. I'm making the...
I'm on the final countdown for picking up my OVRLND camper. Just ordered all the electrical components and I'll be doing a pretty extensive 80/20 buildout over this summer. Can't wait to post pics in early May!
Fast forward 3 years and that’s where I’m at. Two kids (1 & 3). Two dogs (75 and 40 lbs). First gen tundra double cab with an OVRLND camper on order. The plan is for most of our hangout time to be outside. Cooking outside, playing outside. The cab over is bigger than a queen size bed and the...
I'll add to the chorus, @OVRLND Campers has been extremely communicative with me during the build process. It's been a breath of fresh air after dealing with another truck camper company that wouldn't respond for months on end.
Lots of great points brought up here.
One question I keep coming back to is Technical Trails vs Remote Trails and the needs of aftermarket bumpers on each. The recovery points on the front of the 1st Gen Tundra are not ideal especially for a dynamic recovery.
I wish there were more aluminum...
My oldest was about 17 months old on the Alpine Loop trip. Things went generally well here. One thing I can't recommend is 4x4ing with your pregnant wife. That was harder than the little guy.
I think my general advice regarding little ones in the outdoors is don't just all of a sudden take...
Here's an early stage draft. Mainly just playing around with allocation of space. I'm trying to do a lot. The "downstairs" will sleep two young children and two dogs. Big thing on the passenger side will be fridge on a slide on the bottom with some kind of "pantry/storage". Storage underneath...
I'll check in here for now! I ordered an OVRLND in mid November (jumped ship on the eternal wait for a Vagabond Nomad) and am actively planning out my build. Might share some Sketchup ideas in a bit. Super excited to be part of the gang!
Been a while since I posted here. Things have been quiet on the adventure front since we had another baby in February. I'll add some White Rim Trail photos later from Nov 2020. Added White Knuckle sliders. Sold Vagabond Nomad spot because it seemed like it was never going to get built and...
I'm on the fence about adding a steel front/rear bumper to my build. I also think this makes for an interesting discussion around weight and what we actually need out of our trucks.
Some context: I've got an 06 (1st Gen) Double Cab Toyota Tundra with an OVRLND camper on order (~350lbs). I'll...
