I wasn't criticizing these devices, merely pointing out some opinions from someone far knowledgable than me.. I intend to get an InReach shortly, both for the ability to communicate and to pair it with my iPad to provide GPS.
Hello everyone,
Linking to a blog post by a local SAR guy that I think might be of interested to this community:
I thought it was pretty interesting and highlights some of the edge cases when using these devices.
Tango Zulu, are you mechanically inclined (or a professional)? I'm curious how you're expecting to maintain one of these vehicles after you purchase one. Apologies for a slight tangent, but I'm really curious about owning one of these behemoths.
Would you still consider an X now that it's been discontinued? Considering it never had the same kind of aftermarket support that Jeeps or Toyotas have?
I love the look of these tools, thanks for posting. When I finally get a 4x4, I'll likely get one WyethScotts, to avoid permanently hanging a 100lb on the front of the vehicle. Plus, like I said, I just love these.
Thanks for the explanation Maverick1701, that's very cool. Makes sense that once there are no cell towers yous till need to communicate with people. I wish cell phones worked like CBs sometimes :)
Thanks for the video, so well done. I apologize for my ignorance, but Baja California is Mexico, right?
Also, I noticed that the vehicle footage is quite well stabilized. Can you share how you did that?
Hello friends,
Apologies for a slightly clueless title, but that's basically what I am. I've been eyeing unimogs for a few years now but I'm curious about people who own them (or any ex-military vintage vehicle I guess). I'm an IT guy so I have very little experience wrenching on my own...
The solar suitcase comes with "VS1024N" controller which you link to earlier (see http://www.renogy-store.com/Renogy-100W-12V-Mono-Portable-Solar-Suitcase-p/kit-stcs100d.htm). The suitcase setup is $269 whereas the original kit I linked to is $184. As usual buyer beware, but the kit is...
1stDeuce, are you referring to one of the comments on the amazon page:
if that's the case it sounds like the controller dropped into the maintenance mode after recharging his tiny battery in half an hour, which is the behavior you suggest.
In any case, I appreciate your feedback. I know...
How do the Kyocera panels above compare to the Renogy panels? Amazon has a 100 watt kit for $180 bucks which is significantly cheaper than the link above: http://www.amazon.com/Renogy-100W-Mono-Starter-Kit/dp/B00BFCNFRM/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1424732684&sr=1-1
Fair enough. You gotta pay to play. I used to have a first gen and even stock it wouldn't get more than 400km to the tank. Though with more than 300,000km on the odometer it was still reliable and fun truck.
