Have you gone and looked through one? I lucked into an 06 earlier this year and love it but the gear you speak of might be a tight squeeze. That said, if it is just you that opens the back seat(s) up to storage. I suggest you go kick the tires on one.

I have both bought and sold vehicles on Ebay sight unseen. I also recently bought an Earthroamer sight unseen off of craigslist. All transactions turned out well and I would do it again. That said, I wouldn't recommend it in general and I certainly wouldn't do it in this case.
