If the GVWR was 10K on the Ram, that might be doable but with it at 8800 lbs. it was going to be close to weight (or over) once the box was moved and built out. Add the weight of a flat bed and it would be well over GVWR. The M1010 truck is rated for 9400 lbs. GVWR. Add to that, putting the...
Well... moving forward. Picked up some aluminum tube and sheet to start building the rear wall. Much to my surprise, by using 1.5" thick tube on the bottom and 1" thick tube on the top of the opening, the door fit perfectly. I knew it was going to be close but I figured I would have to shim...
Down side is, if you have to pull off the road and it's a narrow shoulder, it becomes a risk of the door/you getting hit, since you cannot see what is coming when inside and the door closed.
If you want something that will stay on, Raptor Liner is the way to go. It is a two part formula that chemically hardens. You do need to have a compressor to spray it. Anything coming out of a spray can or is not a two part mix, is not going to hold up.
Prep is also key for anything. Must...
Agreed, in most cases, shock bodies/reservoirs go up to the frame and the shock shaft is mounted to the axle. This typically is done to protect the shock body and keeps it stationary and the shaft moves up and down.
Yep, parking for us is a two person job. Me driving and Lisa letting me know when I am just past the sidewalk line. :giggle:
Again nice rig and I want a tour!!!
Congrats @Herbie That is AWESOME to see in your driveway. Totally want to check it out one day. 6" front and rear clearance... that's a foot of unused space. LOL. My M1010 is just inside of the sidewalk line and about 12" in the front, to just squeeze by to get to my side yard. The Ram was...
Congrats on your upcoming wedding. Sounds like you have a lot of life changes coming over the next few years.
As for thoughts on rigs, 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog or two. That's a big order to fill for a smaller truck/truck camper setup. My wife and I had a 1997 Ram club cab, long bed 4x4...
I thought about it but having a Four Wheel Camper popup before, we didn't want to deal with a cab over bed anymore. Since I am doing bunk bed design instead, cab over would be a lot of work for wasted space. As it is, I have a really nice, aluminum storage box that will go over the cab area...
Very cool!!! I was torn between a hard side pop up, soft side pop up or just a hard side fixed. I ended up going with the fixed option because I didn't want to deal with trying to find someone to do the fabric. Nice job on your setup.
Here is where mine is currently at, with the fixed sides.
If your wheels and tires are rated for the GVWR (really each axle weight would be better) or more and your total weight is below GVRW, there is no reason to change wheel studs. The factory ones are more than capable as long as they are not damaged by over tightening or other physical damage...
Well crap... Another unforeseen issue with moving the M1010 over to the Ram. The rear tire width is 3" wider than the outside of the box. I didn't think of this until a neighbor parked his newer Chevy truck behind the M1010 and I saw it was a fair bit wider. That prompted me to measure the Ram...
