    Desert Turtle - M1010 Build

Had a little bit of time Saturday to get some work done on the M1010. Finally got the front shocks swapped out to Bilstein 5165 series. To my surprised, the original shocks still had pressure and no leaks. 35 years old but only 15,000 miles. LOL

    California Legal Engine Swaps

Sure it will. :) Heck people are putting LS engines in Miatas which is a smaller engine bay. No matter what you do, you are likely going to need to have a CARB referee certify whatever swap you do. The E-Rod is the only complete engine kit certified for swaps. You can do most any other...

    California Legal Engine Swaps

The only CA smog legal turn key engine for swapping in that I am aware of is the E-Rod V8 engine. It is an LS based setup that has been certified for CA swaps. Everything else you are likely going to have to piece together and get it certified legal by a CARB referee...

Replacing Club Wagon Windows, Need Advice!

If you're going with metal, get some sheet aluminum in the same thickness of the glass. Pop the glass out and use as a template. Then paint or powder coat semi gloss black and install. They will look like windows unless you are right up on them. Diamond plate looks very "redneck" and not...

DIY Expedition Vehicle Built in Garage from the Frame Up

I assumed he must have cast his own engine block, machined all of the parts in it. Made his own axles, wheels, tires... oh and about everything else you need to make a vehicle run? No.... oh maybe he started with a production vehicle parts which clearly means he did not build it ALL himself...

DIY Expedition Vehicle Built in Garage from the Frame Up

Don't let those people who think you are "misleading them" get to you. There is NO ONE here that has built a vehicle that did not start with a manufactured vehicle as the bases. I'll check out your links but sounds like you have a nice build going. Thanks for sharing.

1972 GMC K20 Dubbed "The Wilson Project" ***UPDATES***

Cool truck! Not sure if you noticed or not but the transfer case on the newer setup is a driver side drop and your front axle is a passenger side drop. Those are not going to work together. GM changed the front output side when they went from solid axle to IFS.

    Desert Turtle - M1010 Build

Next up was working on my gauge panel project. As I found, the 4" gauges dropped right in but the smaller ones were going to need the bezel modified to fit them. Looking things over I was able to cut the "cones" that butt up to the stock gauges down shorter, which opens up the hole bigger...

    Desert Turtle - M1010 Build

Well I was able to get a few things done this Labor Day weekend. First up, getting the wheels swapped out. When I had the new Toyo's installed, we found a bent wheel. Since I was never a fan of the black steel wheels my search started for some narrow aluminum ones. I found a set of...

    Desert Turtle - M1010 Build

Still working through ideas for interior layout. This one my be close to our final idea. Fairly to scale but really need to do some tape layout in the box to get a better visual idea. Nice thing about this design is the front pass thru door would still be usable.

    Another M1010 build. #MemphisBelle

Thanks so much for the info. I just joined IG primarily so I could ask about the paint. LOL Now I just need to decide on the color. Been thinking a blue/grey color similar to what the new Tacoma trucks are using.

    Desert Turtle - M1010 Build

Finally got some free time to do some work on the 1010. Wanted to upgrade my headlights and headlight harness. Have new E-code style H4 headlights (Autopal ones, I have used in a half dozen vehicles). I wanted to install a new headlight harness that uses relays to control the lights, so they...
