2018 San Rafael Swell North-South Traverse

We really didn't have too much trouble. The steps you went down on, we climbed obviously going the other way. I was volunteered to go up first with my K5 being the shortest of the group to gauge what it would be the ideal line. With careful spotting I drove right over it without issue. The...

2018 San Rafael Swell North-South Traverse

Been waiting for your video of the Devil's Racetrack. We did it as a group of 5 fullsize (or foolsize depending on your outlook) last year. Went the opposite way you did as we were trying to get to the Sinbad petroglyph and missed a turn. We didn't know the name of the trail until we hit the...

    1994 Full Size Blazer project

Nice Blazer, that's a clean one for sure. I'm on my second set of Hankooks on my wife's Trailblazer. Love them. Good in snow too.

    1978 Blazer FWC

Good work. I love the slots. I would kill to find a set of 8 lug slots for mine. As far as the missing bolt hole in the head, you can use the bracket itself as a template. Go slow and keep checking depth. It's time for you to bring it back to CO so it can get out in it's natural...

Colorado: Medano Pass, Daisy Pass, and Mount Antero

Nice report. Being from Pueblo, the dunes are pretty close and I've run that trail since college. Great easy run with the dunes on the backside as a bonus. It's a fun trail to do in the fall for a color run when the aspens are changing. Consider this as an option too, run Medano east to...

    1978 Blazer FWC

That's pretty funny you snagged the ad for the eventual rig you bought years later. Cool to see the little changes made too.

    1978 Blazer FWC

I'd have to study the schematic for my 91 to know where the wire at the alternator came from. I want to say it's coming from the gauge.

    1978 Blazer FWC

I never got around to getting a pic of my plug, but here's one off of the net. My single wire goes into the first small terminal next to the large terminal in this pic. Pretty easy.

No, but I can take one tomorrow.

    1978 Blazer FWC

While I was working on mine this afternoon I double checked my connector to the alternator. I have 1 circuit going into the plug. The plug has four terminal locations, 1 large and three smaller. The single wire is connected to the first small terminal next to the large terminal. That...

    1978 Blazer FWC

I like the slots. Keep them if you can. They fit the style of the 78 and the camper well. Getting back to your charging problem, I'm running a similar alternator on my 5.3. Mine is set up to one on 1 wire. But for the life of me I can't remember how I hooked it up. I'll have to look...

Project “Polar Bear”: 1989 V2500 Suburban

I love that bumper on the old Power Wagon. Very Mad Max. I'll let Bill know what to pick up for steel.

Project “Polar Bear”: 1989 V2500 Suburban

Nice work Don! I'm pretty sure he's got a fleece-lined denim jacket hidden somewhere at his house he's been saving for this truck.

Project Nomad: 1986 GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic

You are right, from the knuckles out, a D44 and 10b share the same parts. That is also true of the 6 lug or 8 lug versions. Yes, they made 8 lug 10 bolts on 3/4 ton trucks. Only the one tons got the D60. You could just get the hub and rotor asseblies for an 8 lug D44 or 10b and swap it...

Project Nomad: 1986 GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic

I will say this I wheeled the hell out of my old 75 K5 with the 12bolt c-clip rear axle and D44 front. That truck had a manual trans too, so the driveline shock from dumping the clutch was heavy. I was always cautious when off road as I was afraid of snapping a shaft on either end. I never...

    1978 Blazer FWC

That's funny about feeling the air blow down the gap between the cab and camper. I was vacuuming out the area behind my seats a couple of weekends ago and found a ton of chunked particle board pieces that got blown down when I brought my camper down from Denver. I could actually see the gap...

Project Nomad: 1986 GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic

I wouldn't sweat the c-clip eliminator for the type of plans you have for the truck. Most of the c-clip eliminators I've seen in use on the drag race side of the auto world is they don't seal up well. Drive it smart and keep your right foot in check and you'll not have a problem.

    1978 Blazer FWC

I wondered where that one ended up. Been watching it on craigs for over a year. I looked hard at it last year before I pulled the trigger on my FWC but the crusty panels steered me clear of it. Plus I didn't really need the Blazer itself as I wanted to put one on my 91 and that guy didn't...

Project Nomad: 1986 GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic

Good plans so far. Gearing for 10 bolt axles is going to be limited to 3.42's or 3.73's. I'd say for no more than the size of tire you plan on running, 3.42's would be good. 3.73's would give the little 305 some extra grunt down low but will cause a higher RPM at a given speed than the...

Project Nomad: 1986 GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic

Good to see another K5 around these parts. You've got a good game plan to start with. Here's a couple of questions that come to mind when looking at the plans. You stated of keeping the spare and only have a swingout for fuel/water cans and the jack. Are you planning on going larger...
