My new '87 Ramcharger build thread

Another month has passed almost, and I haven't had Ryan out of the yard. I pulled the radiator, transported it to the nearest shop about 45 miles away and requested a rod-out and reseal. About a week elapsed before I received the call telling me the top tank was hashed due to too many stress...

    Show me your 2dr

This is the general kind/type of work I've been involved with since 1996, after finishing my geology degree. I have worked mostly with earthwork observation and density testing. For the last two years, I have been involved with another smaller government project, but Roxy has been off the road...

    Show me your 2dr

Chris, in Spring of 2008, I was one of the civilian quality control technician for the Corps of Engineers working at the Folsom Road Bridge project in Folsom, CA, just south of the Folsom Dam. The project entailed lots of earthwork and asphalt, but most impressive were the cast in place segments...

Gen I Montero Parts For Sale

I have 3 parts cars right now, two 2-doors and one 4-door. I have parted out 4 other Monteros and 1 Dodge Raider, and as a result, I have lots of parts laying about. If you need something, please PM me or post here. For clarity, Gen I Montero = 1983 to 1991. Thanks, Russell

Decisions, Decisions - Full Size V8 Pickup vs First Gen 4Runner

I'm a Mitsubishi and Dodge guy on average, but have you considered a medium between the old 4Runner and the newer F150 that you've been ripped off for? (The $12K balance.) How about a Total Chaos, FabTech, or Dixon Bros. equipped Ranger extended cab with a small service body and said tires mods...

    Mods for towing horse trailer

Here is a basic Searchtempest.com search of the Craigslist and Ebay ads near you. You've been given some good advice and still appear to be ignoring the content that a 1/2-ton is not a horse towing truck. Resale doesn't matter after the truck has been killed and abused. Please be kind and use...

    Mods for towing horse trailer

We pull a two-horse straight load trailer with a fairly large tack room with an '05 GMC Sierra 1500 2wd crew cab SB. With our goats aboard the trailer, no sweat even over the Cascade or Sierra grades. Simply putting one horse in and driving 10 miles 1-way on flat ground, there was a definite...

My new '87 Ramcharger build thread

Tried out my hitch install today by moving two trailers around my yard. Worked well, but was mindful of the leaking water and heat.

    85 re-powering suggestions

Also, there is an SAS solid axle V6 Montero SWB for sale in the 4x4Wire classifieds. Already done and a good price, too.

    85 re-powering suggestions

Look for an automatic trans, easier on the axle parts.

    85 re-powering suggestions

The rear diff will handle a little bit more power. The front diff is marginal. The trans will not handle the torque of a V6, but does stand up somewhat to a turbo 2.6l.

    85 re-powering suggestions

'85 what? Montero or pickup? Differences in the engine bays could dictate other engines, though the 4.3 will work in both. Also, the 2.3L is a diesel. You could run a 4BT Cummins.

My new '87 Ramcharger build thread

Yes, I am a proud third owner. There are some rust issues because of sitting, but only affecting things like brake springs, shoes and backing plates. This truck lived in dry eastern Oregon and drier NorCal south of Mt. Shasta. The radiator and hoses all sprung leaks, looked like a green soaker...

    NATO Style Steel Wheels

Toyota Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner wheels from the late 90's to early '05 were available in the 6-lug, 16" and 17" rim bands with approximately the same spider as depicted on the later 5-lug LandCruiser. The Toyota rims will fit the Montero hub no problem, just be aware that the rims have...
