New Build; 1984 Chevy CUCV M1010 4x4 Ambulance

Actually the speedo was WAY off with the stock tires (based on GPS) and with the new tires, it is still reading too fast. With the new tires, 60 MPH by the speedo is 56MPH by GPS. I just got my Tiny Tach installed so that is where I was able to get my RPM numbers in relation to GPS MPH. Yes...

New Build; 1984 Chevy CUCV M1010 4x4 Ambulance

Nope, my personal comfort zone for cruising in any vehicle on the freeway is 65 MPH. If it can't do that all day long, I'm not going to own it... unless they bring the national speed limit back to 55 MPH. Even at 65, I am likely going to get run over by most of the big rigs and that's only if...

New Build; 1984 Chevy CUCV M1010 4x4 Ambulance

Actually many of them need to happen and many of them domino into the other. Some don't but a lot of the things I need are to get it driveable to remote locations. Things like gauges so I can monitor engine temps, oil pressure, etc. Don't really want to buy some cheap POS piece only to throw...

New Build; 1984 Chevy CUCV M1010 4x4 Ambulance

The only one that would hold up to the weight and diesel output is a 4L80E but they are computer controlled. All said and done would be about $5000 and wouldn't give me the gear splitting that will be really needed climbing hills where I'm at.

New Build; 1984 Chevy CUCV M1010 4x4 Ambulance

Well, nothing new to report outside of trying to figure out what all I want to do. Man things are $$$$!!! Here's just a quick rundown of what some of my plans are and the costs... starting to think I'm nuts... Gear Vendors overdrive $3300 New dash and gauge setup I am planning $1000 Propane...

    M1010 Expo Camper

Based on what they told me, it should be about $800.

    M1010 Expo Camper

Might want to check into that. Last I heard, they no longer service any "J" type versions as parts are no longer available. They will rebuild/service the newer "P" type. Most of the ones I have found used are the older "J" type and don't want to risk getting something that might not work and...

    M1010 Expo Camper

Cool deal, we'll definitely meet up next time you're down this way... or I'm up your way. How are you liking the Gear Vendors? I am about ready to buy one and would love to hear some real world experience from a fellow M1010 owner.

    M1010 Expo Camper

Hey man, Welcome to ExPo and to the M1010 Camper rigs. I just picked up one back in Dec and am working on my conversion. One day we'll have to meet up. Keep on posting up and as always, more pics never hurt. :D BTW, let me know what you are thinking about doing regarding installing a Banks...

    Daddy's Jeep gettin' some love.

Hey now!!! Actually IIRC, I told you that you needed to put the Jeep back on it's own weight AND tighten all those spring bolts. It needs to be under its own weight so the steel bushings that are vulcanized to the rubber part of the bushing, actually sit at a relaxed state at normal ride...

Help me wire my back up camera.

You have the basic idea but make sure your power for both the monitor and camera are on a switched 12 volts source, meaning they turn on when you turn the key on. You don't want them powered all the time as they will put a drain on your battery.

    eBay find: Scepter MFC Wrench!

Man I love the idea but the total cost with shipping seems on the high side ($52+). I think I'll go with a strap wrench as it could be used for other things (like a stuck oil filter).

    My Wandering Soul

I think that's where the problem lies. You make this statement yet from your writings, there is a LOT of backend story no one is getting. Advice being given is based on what you are telling everyone but may not be the best advice for the whole picture.

I too hope you don't take this the wrong way as well. When I donated funds to you, that is exactly what I did "donate" them. I expected nothing back nor have any strings tied to it. I did it because "I" wanted to help. No different then if I give to the Red Cross or Disabled Explorers. I...

    My Wandering Soul

I kind of have to agree with some of the others, if you can't get the 80 fixed correctly, it should not be making any trip down to OVX, unless that trip is a "paid for work" gig. If you are going down to "volunter your time", then this side trip is a "luxury". If the 80 dies in route because...

    72 C/30 - 4x4 Cummins Conversion

Nice setup but at 66 gallons x $4.00 (likely low estimate) = $264 per fill up. :Wow1: I guess if you have a 22 gallon tank and fill up three times to cover the same distance, the cost is the same but still I rather see my bill at $88, even though I do it 3 times. Just seems easier to swollow...

    4L85E or Gear Vendors???

$$$$ and they are really made for high performance vehicles, not a low RPM diesel. Already checked into them.
