I worked out in the dakotas we ran external tanks in the beds of our trucks. Never had any problems, just treat it with some howes and we were off

I say fix it if, the body is still in decent shape. Hell im driving a 2010 Ford Escape with 197,000 on the clock. Not expo cool but it gets me there and back.

I used to tow around 3000 with my f150. But had weight distribution hitch and sway bars. Over kill probably but better to be safe
