    Unusual and/or Derelict Vehicles/Machinery

Sorry - that's a Triumph GT-6 - Hardtop coupe based on the Spitfire with a 6 cylinder engine under the hood. SAAB Sonnets have a fiberglass body so they don't rust like that.....

    Post Pics of your Defender

as you can sort of see in this picture I moved the Maggiolina forward enough to have a jerry can holder on the rack behind the back of the tent. I'll probably put another holder on the other side for a 5 gallon Sceptre water can. There would be enough room for a tent or some other load without...

    Post Pics of your Defender

Its an older Maggiolina Roof Tent that I picked up used from a friend of mine. Its a little cozier than an all canvas tent and sets up in around 1 minute (flip three latches - insert the crank and spin it about a dozen times then grab the ladder out of the inside - ready to sleep.) It takes...

    My Conqueror and Rig!

Some of the guys in our group basically got tired of freezing their butts off in November as we have done for the last two years. Since there are so many other events in October we decided to try moving SAE forward to the early part of the good camping season before hunting season opens. We'll...

    Who uses a hammock?

I still use a couple of woven cotton hammocks I bought from a vendor on the beach at Mazatlan Mexico almost 40 years ago. They are the "matrimonial" size so you sleep at a 45 degree angle to the length of the hammock and lie flat. I sleep on my side and its no problem - very comfortable and...

    used camera gear?

I'm a long time KEH customer - never been disappointed by anything I've bought from them. I always use them as a sanity check when buying any used equipment as they quite often offer lower prices than the asking price that most individuals list on their craigslist ads - plus they offer a...

Want to ride ,never have before, where to start?

I'm a bit older and started riding many, many years ago - learned to ride on bikes that were tiny by today's standards (50cc Suzuki, 65cc Honda, 160cc Honda and the BIG 305cc Honda). We had a lot of fun riding these small bikes with horsepower numbers well under 30 HP. For dirt riding you really...

Post up stories or pictures of your vintage nostalgic equipment.

A friend of mine still has his wooden framed Trapper Nelson backpack from the 1960's. Very cutting edge for the time. I'm still using my Snow Leopard mummy style sleeping bags from the mid 1970's - one down and one synthetic - still very comfortable but a bit tighter fit than they used to be...

    Help with foam cut outs

I use either a knife made from a section of serrated bandsaw blade (like a meat cutting blade) or a small Makita trim router.

    Cool old trailer

Its the back of a SAAB 96 station wagon - I saw a yellow one like it in North Georgia about thirty years ago at the Cloudland Canyon state park. Pretty cool idea. I saw a similar trailer made from the back end of a VW Rabbit too - the hatchback makes it easy to access and without the seats they...

RTT cool - now replaced by VW Camper tent !

What a brilliant idea - very cool. One of my friends who is a total VW nut is almost sure to buy one of these. Now if they would just make a Land Rover version......

Who uses a roof rack and what for?

There's not an abundance of room in a Defender 90 so having a rack allows me to move the sleeping equipment upstairs as well as giving me a mount for an awning, place to attach the hammock, carry a fuel can, and a few other things. The Hannibal rack is light, strong, quiet and well built.

    who daily drives there rovers?

Prefer driving this most of the time although we do have a Honda CRV transportation appliance that the wife likes better since its easier to get in and out of (and she says the Land Rover smells) Been driving Land Rovers since 1972 Once I get the restoration finished on this I'll probably...

Maggiolina owners, how do you close your tent?

I zip the windows closed and zip the door opening flap down about 2/3 of the way. I can leave the door screen rolled up - it just makes it easier to stuff everything in once you crank the lid down to about six inches from the bottom.

    Anybody hang around?

I've got a couple of the colorful cotton thread hammocks I bought in Mexico about thirty years ago - very comfortable and they pack up into a bundle about the size of two pairs of socks. You want to sleep at a 45 degree angle to the length of the hammock - that way you are perfectly horizontal...
