if the rust isn't that bad on the 100 and it got a clean bill of health like you said that would definitely be the way to go over the early MY 80-series.
FWIW, $8,500 is a good price if the maintenance has been done and the truck is in good shape. For 10-12k you can probably find something...
The snorkel on the 200 series is UGLY.
The one of the 70-series is gorgeous, and I wish I could find a factory airbox to that I can get a snorkel kit for my BJ74.
If my crew was that big I'd strongly consider a sequoia. We love our 100 and with 2 kids and one large dog it takes a large Thule roof box to fit our stuff for trips. Any more people or pets inside and we'd need a trailer.
The sequoia is markedly bigger inside and has easier accessed and...
Mine needs to come off quickly because my stove wasn't always near the back of the truck. So in my case the simple wire twisted through was enough to keep it secure and quick enough to remove a few times a day if needed.
Awesome. If you got the powertank mount like I have you'll want something to secure the locking mechanism on the strap. You could obviously use a lock but that seems a bit extreme. I just used a piece of wire to loop through but there's a more elegant solution out there.
If you can avoid putting bumpers and winches and tons of gear you can keep the stock suspension. Make sure you drive a fully built fully loaded truck before venturing down that road. It rides much much different than the stock configuration. Sliders, 33s", a torsion bar crank and *perhaps*...
We really love our frontrunner water can. Make sure to get the upgraded copper spigot. Works great! I built a niche for it on top my cargo box in the 100, and custom designed a swingout on the back of my 74 for it.
Great truck! Do a little searching over on MUD, lots of info on the 100-series over there. There are a few folks who have integrated a winch with the OEM front bumper, and if I were to do it over again that's what I'd do. As my truck is built it is big and heavy and slow. That's the price...
Has anyone compared the extreme air to the ARB twin? At $415 you're most of the way to the ARB, and the ARB is a bit smaller.

A nice set of 285.75.16s and some sliders and some airbags for the rear would be my starting point. There have been some nice integrations of a winch with the OEM front bumper which is the way I would go if I were you and decided I absolutely needed a winch. I would avoid heavy bumpers and...
YDR - did you happen to get that measurement of total depth? The tank itself is 9". I'm hoping for less than 11" total depth as that's what I have b/w the PS swing arm jerry can mount and the spare tire. The photo I posted above was with the 31" spare, there's now a 33" back there.
Any...
Awesome photos! We head back your way in about 2 weeks, been busy with the first leg of the trip and work, but I've got my UT maps in hand now and will shoot you an email to try and connect soon.
Looks like we should pack the sunscreen and leave the skis at home :)
Thank you sir! It's a really cool little truck! I finally picked it up in BC about 2 weeks ago, and spent 2 weeks tooling around BC, WA and OR with it. Left it in Portland and returning in 2 weeks to have another 18 day adventure driving it the rest of the way home, including a jaunt across...
Is this the power tank bracket you got? http://www.amazon.com/Power-Tank-BKT-2260-Aluminum-Bracket/dp/B002KC93MM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424979739&sr=8-1&keywords=powertank+mount It doesn't look exactly like your photo but says it works with the 10 or 15lb tanks.
I'd like to order this...
