Advice Needed:: Tacoma owner considering a ZR2

I've been looking at both the Taco and the ZR2 diesel and was starting to lean towards the ZR2. Then I started running the gas numbers on it. After paying the $3k premium for the diesel, factoring in the local difference in gas and diesel prices, the amount of time it would take to recoup the...

Thanks. Being my first overland trip, I was not sure what all to capture photo wise on the trip. Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it.

Anyone out there doing overland trips where one of their main purposes is to capture images?

    Three Generations in Death Valley.

Thanks Neil. The little guy did ask me if we could go on another trip like this the day after we got back. That's a huge plus.

    Three Generations in Death Valley.

Yes it was! Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. We did have a lot of fun. Those pics of yours are priceless. My Jeep was built for rock crawling here in CO, so most of my mod thoughts on this trip were for how I could make it better at overlanding. Adding hydro assist steering would have...

Who is pulling an off road trailer with their Taco?

Thanks @Timcampsallover . I'd probably lose 2-4 mpg just being up here in the mountains. But I'd most likely be much lighter with what my eventual setup would be, so maybe gain back a couple of mpg.

Who is pulling an off road trailer with their Taco?

Thanks for the details. What locations to you explore in the most? Do much mountain driving with the trailer in tow? That's not a bad drop in mpg pulling a trailer in the hills.

Thanks WOODY2, it is definitely interesting with all of the different ecosystems that it offers in a geographically small area.

Day 8 - 31Mar18 Race Track / Teakettle Junction / Ubehebe Crater Trip Time: 6:02 (0937-1539) Miles: 96 Average Speed: 16mph Due to the down time spent in Bishop fixing the Jeep, it was decided that we could extend the trip an extra day to explore the last three locations on our itinerary...

Artist's Drive is worth the drive, but also be much better around sunset. During the middle of the day it was just okay. There is a 25' limit for RVs and trailers. I was just a couple of feet over that, but did fine. One of the adverse side effects of the steering gearbox going out earlier in...

Day 7 - 30Mar18 Zabriskie Point / Devil's Golf Course / Badwater Basin / Artist Drive / Salt Creek Trip Time: 9:06 (1034-1940) Miles: 233 Average Speed: 25mph This was going to be our "tourist" day. All of the points of interests we were going to stopping at were right off the main roads...

    Three Generations in Death Valley.

Leaving the crowds behind, we made our way to Echo Canyon for the night. The start of Echo Canyon is a washboard and rocky road that eventually turns into a just a rocky road. There is a small "gate keeper" type of obstacle on the trail before you get into the canyon that seems to keep most...

Day 6 - 29Mar18 Skidoo Mines / Furnace Creek / Echo Canyon Trip Time: 7:47 (0959-1747) Miles: 176 Average Speed: 22mph Knowing my dad would enjoy the old mining sites, I make it a point on this trip to explore the Skidoo mining area. It is remote and has many small and several large old...

Day 5 - 28Mar18 Bishop, CA / Pinion Mesa Trip Time: 5:56 (1032-1629) Miles: 140 Average Speed: 23mph After restocking on some food supplies and gassing up, we made the trip back into the park. Since we had lost a couple of days in Bishop, I decided to alter my planned route and stick to the...
