Day 3/4 - 26Mar18 - 27Mar18
Saline Valley / Big Pine, CA / Bishop, CA Trip Time: 6:39 (0801-1441)
Miles: 92
Average Speed: 14mph
The next morning we were all business. We tore down camp and I aired the front tires way up (and brought the rears and trailer tires up some to equal it out a bit...
Before sunset a storm started to roll in. The inReach weather report said possible rain and snow.
Right at sunset, the surrounding hills were getting some much needed rain.
That evening the wind picked up and was blowing around 20-25mph consistently with gust well above that. While noise...
The rest of the trail was a mix of hard pack and gravel. One other spot worth mentioning on this trail was a narrow section of road between a switch back. It had eroded some the width of my Jeep was pushing it. My dad and son got out to watch and dad said my passenger side tires were right on...
His Pep-pa was really proud of him as well.
We could not spare the weight to bring back all the sand he collected in his hiking boots!
With the dunes conquered and the camp packed up, we headed south on the Steele Pass trail. The trail around the dune field is very sandy in spots, but...
Day 2 - 25Mar18
Eureka Dunes / Steele Pass / Saline Warm Springs / Mechanical issue Trip Time: 6:30 (1108-1532)
Miles: 46
Average Speed: 4mph
In my initial plans Day 2 was supposed to be the longest day on the move inside the park, but I initially made some alternative stopping points because...
From the turn off for Scotty's Castle, Death Valley Rd becomes a mix of mild washboard and smooth dirt and packed gravel. That part of the road is very wide and that late in the afternoon there was no one traveling it but us, we were able to make some good time in this section. Once we hit the...
Out of all of the trails/roads we drove in DV, Titus Canyon was my favorite. It starts out with nice desert mountain views, transitions into some shelf road switchbacks climbing over the mountains and then drops you down in to the valley before entering the canyon. Lots of great views and...
This was my first overlanding trip ( you can find my planning thread here ) and so my first trip report. Hopefully I cover everything in just the right amount of detail. If you have any questions about the trip or rig/gear, please just ask. The CO to NV cross country drive was an uneventful...
Not know how similar the Taco and FJ are, what is stock mpg on the FJ and what were you getting pulling the trailer? What does your loaded trailer weigh?
I'm kicking around the idea of getting a Taco and have plans for an off road trailer as well. I'd love to ask some questions to those that have this setup.
Can someone measure from the center of the axle to the ball location for me please? I'd like to know have it compares to the trailer I just pulled through DV. Thanks.
So you have your kitchen on the passenger's side and your fridge on the driver's side? That sounds like it would be kind of a pain since you would have to walk around the trailer to get to either while cooking/eating.
I'm not quite fallowing this part of your post though:
Perhaps we can...
Thanks. I just drove through GJ on my way back from the Death Valley trip. Pulling the Jeep CJ tub trail really gave me some ideas for what I want in a trailer. An easy to setup and tear down kitchen layout is chief among them. I'd really like a trailer with two slide outs on one side, one in...
Oh, have any of you thought about mounting your spare tire on top of the box, between it and the RTT? If you also add water tank(s) under the trailer, it should cancel out the top heaviness. I know it would still raise the center of gravity some, but not by much I would think.
Thanks guys for starting this thread and keeping it going. I've been kicking around the idea of an offraod trailer for a couple years now (I want some thing small and trail ready and the wife would prefer something more glamperish... go figure). I initially saw the Scout and thought it looked...
I'll have to put one of my wireless security cams in there to find out! lol
I could not find anything in the manual about the lid timer, so I'll call customer service back and ask them about that and the lid switch.
Thanks guys.
