I need ideas on how to mount shovel/axe to body panels

You could use a lock rather than a cotter pin, on something like this. The bolt is stainless steel

    Question regarding dropped axle, flipped?

Not sure, but instead of lift blocks on the axle, could you weld 2" or 3", ~3' long box tube to the frame and then weld the spring hangers to that? You'd get the same net heigth gain without lift blocks. A 2" frame spacer would allow a for 4" taller tire?

    Looking for a Good Swag

That's cool, the tent I tried didn't have a built in mattress. How is the humidity in OZ vs. east coast? That is the biggest down side I see. I don't mean to rain on your parade:) They do look expoish:)

    Looking for a Good Swag

I'm curious, why this style? I've tried this style and there is no room (obvious) and they get clammy real fast. Why not a 2 or 3 man pack packing tent from Mountain Hardware or similar?

    Lesson's Learned

Been there, done that, a hilift as a winch is slooow...., but it works:) It's a good point you make about having proper clothes for the weather. I like to have a change of clothes and extra boots too. If there is water, I find a way to step in it. The only thing I see you guys did wrong was...

    rock sliders for super duty?

Does anyone know of a company that sells rock sliders for 99-04 Super duty trucks? I've been searching for over an hour with no luck. I can find 3 inch chrome tube nerf bars but I'm looking for box rock crawler style.

    Jeep Wrangler Chop-top.

Sectioning the fiberglass top would be a PIA, the picture isn't great but it looks like he did a good job. Unless he leaned the windshield forward, he probbly had to shorten the length of the top too. I have to go wash my hands after typing this:elkgrin:

    Looking for Tire Carrier Spindles

I am a fan of this style latch, it closes very tight. If the hinge fails, it's unlikely that this 1/2" grade 8 bolt will fail at the same time

    Looking for Tire Carrier Spindles

I was just being a smart MMMMM b/c in every tire carrier thread, someone trots out the same dozen or so pictures showing failures. I've had good luck with the splindle type hinges. i think the key is to design the carrier with as little movement as possible. The latching mechanism should hold...

    Question about front axle/4wd.

Here is one mod I did to a dana 30. I took apart the vacuum motor assembly and put a small piece of fuel line on the shaft, then reassembled. This keeps it locked at all times, basically the same as the new dana 30s. When Vaccum is applied the fork slides on the rail. The vaccum lines get...

    The Wheel Winch

X2, it would be lighter than a winch but would take up as much space. Looks like a hassle to hook up too. What if the tire is under water?

Lets see some full size pictures...

If I could only take an unmodified vehicle offroad, I'd go for a full size domestic everytime. This is my stock 04, whether i'm hauling fire wood or doing a 10 hour drive, it never blinks :ylsmoke: photocredit to cshontz

    educate me please 4dr jk

If I were choosing b/t the x and rubicon I think I'd say if you are going to do 12 plus off highway trips per year, then go rubicon. If you're keeping the vehicle for more than 4 years then, Rubicon. Otherwise I'd save the money. If you are realistically looking at 2-3 trips per year, I...

    The "Expedition hat" thread

I'll second this one. They are really lite. I dip mine in water or the ice chest, wring it out and wear it when it's really hot. I cut off the goofy stings too
