Had a bit of time this evening (snow day in Denver) and read through all the posts in this thread. Very entertaining and vastly informative, thanks for the many photos of your installations.
This is also a consideration for me so I will be very interested in following your posts on the additional fuel system. Please do include photos if possible.
Is there information on availability in the US?
I ordred those vents from the UK supplier. Great idea. Used them to sleep in the LR for a bit of air and to keep out any possible flying unfriendlies. They work great and I expect to be using them lots in the future.
Definitely have that overheating issue checked out. PO overheated the one I bought and did not tell me. Cost was astronomical to have the heads redone on the 07 LR3.
The year not withstanding, an overheating issue is going to cost.
I am using the Front Runner full rack and have fabricated a few items to work with the rack that I cannot buy. I am now working on a removable (using the bolt on configuration of the FR rack) holder for the panel. Involves putting the panel on the rack with the working side of the panel facing...
I traveled all through the southwest back in the 80's when I was a photographer (film then) I took a great shot of the Spruce Tree House. Had to wait for all the tourists to clear out first though. Had it enlarged to 20 x 48 and framed to hang over my fireplace then. Turned out beautiful.
Thanks...
I am also working on a solar answer. I have a 15 watt panel that seems to work well in direct sun but for an extended stay it might not be adequate. Most of the fold-uppanels I see are much too expensive but then might not be an issue if I am out of power in nowhere land.
also enjoying the time you take to photograph the wildlife as those things are a part of the adventure and should not be missed. some travelers only show the road traveled and that is a bit common, your photo record is very well done.
I read the posts and understand the D1 is rare. I sold my 73 Pinzgauer, which was in excellent shape and bought a 07 LR3. Miss the pinz but enjoy the LR.
I would certainly be prone to keep the D1 if you can repair and enjoy it. As the man says LR3 vehicles are not rare.
It is a tough choice...I...
The 24V system is not an issue. the 24V lights on a 12V system will be just a bit less bright. If you need a female plug for your Pinzgauer male plug go to Swiss Army Vehicle site and order one that will work. Not expensive and it will allow you to use the lights that are on the trailer and...
How young? Perhaps old enough to participate in the set up in order to make it a fun and learning adventure. Everybody has a job to do for the camping adventure.
Made this one from light weight canvas, straps and click fasteners. Holds the pillows mostly. Cost was about $30 for parts and my trusty sewing machine put it together.
I also carry the RV3 on the Front Runner roof rack and use rubber rope (bungie) to hold it down. Zipper down to keep it a bit dryer in transporting. I put my solar panel under it to keep them both available as the panel doesn't get used till the tent is down anyway.
We have property in the...
Try putting the photos on Photo Bucket and posting the link. I have to do it that way on another forum and that way people can move through the photos as they want and it will keep your entire build for the post.
Keeping a fridge running full time is great if you have a vehicle battery and a house battery. Leaving it on for a week could run down the vehicle battery enough so in a winter weather condition the vehicle might not start...but why take that chance? If you run a 24 V system it will use 1/2 the...
