In general you will find that 18" LT / load range E tires start at mostly 32" diameter and larger, requiring Johnson Rods/permanent lift. General Tire offers the 285/60-18 AT2 at 31" OD while Cooper's A/T3 18" LT's start at 275/65, which is 32.1" OD, and larger. Once you sort out that first set...
My factors were a need for load range E tires, excellent snow performance, increased side wall dimension, while not permanently lifting the vehicle to where it could not enter a standard garage. Adding ground clearance was also a consideration. Thinking a 32" or larger diameter tire requires a...
Hmmmm .............. the various height settings raise the body/frame relative to the tires. This increases the clearance between the interference points and the tire.
Axels interference issues are the same as mine, although I did also have issues with front tire leading edge plastic and the...
Agreed on ribs. Another item I did not mention are the balancing weights applied by the tire shop. For me Discount used the strips of square tabs taped to the inside of the wheel. That needs to be carefully located or the caliper will sheer them off.
Stay warm ! :sombrero:
There are actually two dimensions in play for LR4 calipers. The first is the outboard diameter of the caliper body (where the pistons sit) that must fit within the wheel inside diameter closest to the spokes. The 30mm spacer sets this outboard diameter just far enough in that it clears.
The...
Welcome to West of the Mississippi. Never buy a vehicle from East of Kansas. The body will be a rust bucket.
But, interiors of SouthWest vehicles will be dried up crumbs unless well oiled over the years.
Personally I'd rather work on interiors.
Think I saw those 'concepts' about a decade ago ................... just after the Scout III concepts .............. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2008/11/17/international-history-in-auburn-museum/
For my 2011 LR4 ..........
Towing a 5000lb camper.
- Air suspension = no load leveling / equilizer hitch required
- Trailer wiring harness, 7-pin, VPLAT0013
- 3rd gen Hitch LR040248
- Drop hitch and appropriate size ball - Check the load rating on the hitch. The cheap ones sold by the auto...
Load rating is on a per size basis. Thinking the low end for LR3/4's is 109. My 2011 LR4 with 20" wheels came with Yokohama Parada Spec-X with a load index of 109. Ride quality was smooth. Off road they were mediocre and 20" wheels are completely inappropriate. When towing a trailer I could feel...
OK, finally pics for 10 spoke LR3 wheels, 30mm spacers and LT285/60-18 GG AT2's on a 2011 LR4 Lux w/HD
Std height
Std height, side shot
Tight clearance at leading edge of front tire
Off road height
Need to get her off road and find those areas that still rub after some trimming of...
Looking good Axels. Sounds like you think the investment was worth it.
Next challenge ............... those hard plastic mud flaps that will be toast on the first rock. I haven't figured out what to do but they definitely need to be replaced with something more compliant. Or eliminated.
I only had a slight interference issue with the right front. Caliper left a shine on the inside of the wheel. Took a 80-grit sanding disk to one rib on the caliper. No grindingl. More of just a clean up of built up road grime. Clearance between outside of caliper and wheel is between ~2mm. The...
From what I have read the new supercharged V6, AJ126 ,shares many technologies and parts with the Jag V8. The AJ126 is derived from the AJ133. It is not a Ford engine.

The AJ126 V6 is basically an AJ133 V8 engine that has 2 less cylinders and is...
Thinking only the SCV6 will be an option for 2014, at the same 5800#'s. I've read that the LR4 will go the RRS route (Al) and shed 800# in 2015+ so less weight would help. That said, even at 5000#'s the V8 would be a better choice for towing.
We run premium in the LR4 although I do run...
So I had a similar need, towing a 5000# trailer through the high country (well even across the flat lands). The 5000# 95RRC LWB with a cam'ed 4.6 (~230hp/300ftlbs) was 'OK' across Kansas but at altitude (down 15 to 20% on power) I was in 2nd and revs were on the top of the torque curve...
Brings back memories. We use to take a 100' rope and make knots every 16' or so for the neighborhood kids to grab onto. Tied it to the back of a Scout and towed the group up the snow covered neighborhood street which was long and fairly steep. They would all let loose at the top and I would...
