SOLD: Holy Grail 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon- Built, Low Mileage- Price Update

Beautiful. One question about the damage caused by the flat tow. I thought these could be flat towed with no issue. What caused the damage? Thanks

    The Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail

Such a great trail. I did it on a very hot week and crossing over that last hill to Lake Superior dropped the temp 20 degrees. Personally, I found the scenery through the southern section as it crossed thru the Driftless much prettier and more interesting.

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

It’s been more than a few years ago but I believe it was an F350 and I said in the post, a dually.

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

Again, not a fair comparison. The trailer load rating is always higher than payload because the trailer is riding on its own axle(s). The payload is weight on truck's axles.

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

I get the GVWR isn't a legal limit for the owner. However, and I have been involved in an insurance case that used GVRW, it is THE number that will be used by insurance companies and the courts to determine if a vehicle being overweight is a factor in a collision. Why? Because its considered...

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

It really doesn't matter what the driver thinks about his vehicle. He's significantly over GVWR- he might get away with it but if he's involved in an accident and goes to court, his opinion won't really matter much. The only entity that can change the GVWR is the manufacturer. No amount of...

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

The case is that he is knowingly driving a vehicle that is grossly overweight and not designed to carry that additional weight. Honestly, many, many overlanding vehicles and RV's are probably overweight every day, largely because people don't think to get them weighed. In this case, the driver...

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

Its not necessary to prove intent with negligence. We are all guilty of it at some point. Just sit at a Home Depot and watch people strap heavy stuff on their car roof using twine or small straps. Do they intend to have that load fly off and cause an accident, potentially killing someone...

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

Thats really an apples to oranges comparison. A drunk driver doesn't intend to get in a wreck but modifying your vehicle and affecting GVRW can certainly be deemed intentional given all the public info about it. This thread would be "discoverable" in a lawsuit. The bigger concern should be...

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

It might be questionably legal in Pennsylvania but I would be more concerned about insurance and civil liability. I'm not an attorney but spent a fair amount of time in the insurance industry and this has so many red flags, its unlikely he would get insurance on that vehicle. Of course, he...

Please show me roads TC's should not go on, and roads ok for TC's (hard side and popup style TC's)

I just drove my Ram 3500 with Bundutec pop up camper 1000 miles up and back on the Dempster and it was fun. Adjust speed to conditions and you'll be golden.

    Electric Chain Saw

I ended up with a cordless reciprocating saw From Harbor Freight. https://www.harborfreight.com/20v-brushless-cordless-compact-reciprocating-saw-tool-only-58458.html Its much more compact than the chainsaw and with the right blades from Amazon (EZARC Wood Pruning Reciprocating Saw Blade...

    Van vs Truck Camper

Ok I give up. We'll have to agree to disagree. Your fuzzy math and illogical responses are pretty funny. You have a right to your own opinions but not your own set of facts. Cheers

    Van vs Truck Camper

I think if you reread the posts, you might be confusing my comments with others. I've consistently maintained that Ram trucks with diesels weigh more than those with gas engines. For SRW trucks, payload is less for diesel trucks than gassers since the weight of the engine is part of the overall...

    Van vs Truck Camper

I have a friend with the exact same truck - 2015 ram 3500 Laramie SRW and 6.5' box. Mine has the Hemi, his has the Cummins. The manufacturer's sticker indicates my truck is 636 pounds less GVRW. And, having worked in the insurance industry for many years, I can tell you that the manufacturer...

    Van vs Truck Camper

"Gross Vehicle Weight ( GVWR ) is the weight of the vehicle at full capacity. It includes the curb weight, or empty weight, plus the weight of the driver, all passengers, engine, engine fluids, fuel, and the cargo that the vehicle is carrying. It does NOT include the weight the vehicle may be...

    Van vs Truck Camper

GVRW is the overall weight of a vehicle including passengers and fuel. Diesel engine blocks weigh hundreds of pounds more than a gas engine block so all things being equal, GVRW is higher due to that increase.

    Van vs Truck Camper

Interesting. But the statement "they adjust the GVRW up on the diesels" is nothing magic - the diesel engine just weighs more so GVRW goes up automatically. GVRW is just the overall weight of the vehicle with passengers and fuel so with the heavier diesel engine, thats not surprising. But...

    Van vs Truck Camper

Interesting. But I dont think Ram does that, at least based on what I read. Not sure how tire and wheel choices can affect GVRW but that must be some Ford magic. Cheers
