Rasor Road or Basin Road, I always mix up the two. Just west of the Mojave Preserve, looking north. They're trying to build a large photovoltaic array here. Most folks seem to think it's too pretty to trash it up with solar panels.
Nanabijou, I agree with your summing up, except that I've owned two different Exped Synmats, and both leaked... not like sieves, but basically just like every other air mattress.
Keep in mind that pack horses and mules are allowed in Wilderness; those four legs grind away much more trail surface than bipeds or even [properly]ridden mountain bikes. That's roughly the total weight of a large man on each hoof.
You didn't mention that it has no headphone jack. I really liked the old supplied wired headset for long phone conversations, especially in noisy environments. They sounded awful for music reproduction. Apple will sell $150 pair of BT earpods (w/mic, I assume?).
Hard to see how this doesn't...
5-speed is rare, 4 cyl is rare. If it has hand-crank windows it's be the rarest 4x4 4Runner possible. I'd have bought that...or at least looked at it... if it had come up during my 8 month 4Runner search 2012-2013. I went with a 6-cyl/5-speed with the hideous brown interior 'cause it was...
Good report, nice photos. That place has been on my list for a while now.
Agree with the others that the trip looks like it wasn't exactly a failure...more of a 'change in plans'.
Note about tires: You mentioned that these were the tires that came with the truck. All the new Toyotas(It is a...
The cheap stuff from the auto parts store is usually polyethylene; The nicer stuff is made of nylon. Both are commonly available, though when I looked it seemed that I'd probably have to web oder the better nylon stuff. The cheap PE stuff seems to be holding up fine (about 1 year so far) in the...
Exactly. Their catalog features non-ad industry influenced copy which is a pleasant break from REI's stupid copy. I phone-ordered a bunch of stuff from them about 20 years ago....no interweb then! Haven't bought from them lately 'cause I don't need anything anymore.
Thanks for posting this nice report. These are the only clear photos of [what I believe to be]Mengel Pass that anyone has ever posted anywhere that I've seen.
All the blister pack radios I have witnessed, since they came out about 20 years ago, have one overriding feature: they are incapable of being loud enough to hear in anything but a quiet environment. Inside a SUV or truck bouncing along a backcountry road is not a quiet environment. Buy with...
