Gas vs Diesel Shootout in the Dunes & Sand

Wheels speed is more closely associated with HP than Torque, practially, since gas motors in the same platform generally have the same HP as diesels but get the HP from lower torque at higher RPM and have a wider RPM range. To your point, in theory, shifting can offset lack of wheel...

Gas vs Diesel Shootout in the Dunes & Sand

In normal rigs, aka not heavy OKA's and Unimogs, I've never crawled up a dune in my neck of the woods, you needs some speed and rev's as you slowly lose momentum on way up unless it's super shallow....fully realizing we have differing conditions and sand types. That last pic is super dense and...

Gas vs Diesel Shootout in the Dunes & Sand

I do a fair amount of driving in the sand....fair amount of dune driving also. The majority of my time has been spent in gas rigs with the rights setup, and have had good luck with all my rigs; FJ40's, Tacomas, 19' Ranger, 22' Ram 2500. One thing I did notice the other day when I was out...

Tired of Old Junk but no Interest in Newer 4x4s

Agreed with you there! Same things with the old 2f engines....I had one in my 78 FJ40 years ago, awesome robust engine, could in theory go 100k's of miles, but they needed work OFTEN to run properly. Always something to screw with, carb rebuilt, vaccuum line (must be 50 of them) to fix, tune...

    New Bronco

Exactly - same thing would happen with all those 70 series Landcruisers people want Toyota to build until they saw the price tag and realized what a 130hp 6000 lb vehicle drove like.

    INEOS Grenadier

I meant like special packages, engine options, offroad tires, transmisison options, headlights, and all the other stuff you can add $20k to most US trucks....their "base" model really has it all, all the stuff you point out is def going to add to cost but that is typically all aftermarket...

    INEOS Grenadier

It's hard to do a currency conversion on these things as you point out, I know Ford Raptors in the US are ~$70k, in Aus using a straight exchange they should be ~$100k, reality is they are ~$150k+.....but I don't think you are way off base. I'm still expecting them right around $70k, starting...

    INEOS Grenadier

Well that is encouraging, but given there are not a lot of options on them, what would push them much higher than that? Drivetrain is fixed, no upgrades there. I find it very very hard to believe....my gut says ~$70k, but don't see $15-20k in options being a thing either, options for what...

Tired of Old Junk but no Interest in Newer 4x4s

I don't totally disagree, but you need to define things better and figure out use case....but based on your post you are mixing qualitative & quantitavie requirements. When you say things like "its not fun", "doesn't do it for me" or "doesn't interest me"...you are getting away from modern rigs...

You can still get the Ram Tradesman 2500/3500's with the manual Tcase lever.....

Simple rims for modern full size trucks?

I like the Methods, they are a close offset to the AEV's but have 9mm less offset, in conjuction with the 9" wide rims vs 8.5" aev's it bumps the tire out another 15mm....not much, but still worried it's going to look funky....

    New Bronco

Stuff happens - I wouldn't get too bent about that, it's something we all have to deal with on vehicles as much as it sucks . A buddy of mine had his nearly new Tacoma, this was 4-5 years ago, get stuck in low range 10 hrs from home....he drove to the nearest town at 15 mph which was like 25...

    INEOS Grenadier

Even if they *could* offer at mid 50's, with domestic competition like the Jeeps and Defender and Bronco all priced (comparably) in the 60-70k+ range, why would they undercut themselves? I think you are right about the service agreements, but with military contracts there is a lot of politics...

    INEOS Grenadier

I've said it before, if Toyota offered the LC70 here stateside they'd be very expensive, a lot more than many would think, I bet mid to upper $50's best case. This things is a helluva lot nicer than a std. 70 series. Cost to manuf a rig is a piece of the pie, supply chain channels, parts...

    INEOS Grenadier

I don't see any way these can be sold for $55k, made in France, built to high standard (in theory), somewhat niche, low volume, BMW engine and based on the reviews solidly built (above poster suggested it felt like Gwagen)....not sure how they could swing this financially for less than mid $70's...

    INEOS Grenadier

Do we have any mechanical specs on diff sizes, trans ratios, etc? I'm guessing they are using D44's or equiv. I find it hard to believe that it's going to be priced reasonably in line with say Landcruiser? Looks like base price is low $70's, but once optioned competatively with a LC, should...

Why don't we see more Ford Ranger builds

I got 17-18 mixed and could easily get 22+ on longer highway slogs, I had slighltly larger tiles also.

PRICE DROP $395K, 2020 MAN 18.322 WORLD OVERLAND EXPEDITION FOUR-WHEEL-DRIVE CAMPER

Awesome rig! Good value it looks like also. My only experience with MAN is watching Dakar Rally seeing trucks sim to this bouncing through the desert at 80mph.... Based on what some of the Earthroamer, Earthcruiser, etc cost, this seems like a no brainer for somebody wanting something this size.
