F150 3.5L Ecoboost HDPP vs SuperDuty

+1....I was at the dump this past weekend and they have a weigh scale in/out to charge you, a fella in front of me had an early 2000's Tundra with a camper, I was curious what it weighed, 7,250! It had a small hard side camper on it....looks like the GCWR is 6,600 for that era tundra....so 650...

You also get a LOT more capacity with the domestics.....if you have a trailer or a slide in camper a 70 isn't really an option. Even IF it fell within the towing / payload capacity of the 70, say a small trailer or a 4WC, can you imagine drive a rig with 130 hp that weighs 7000 lbs? Works in...

Don't even get me started on how stupid tall trucks are these days - it's aggravating. I'm big into dirtbikes and now I can't load it without a big step stool. Bring back the 90's trucks.... I had a late 90's F150 w/4.9L I6, 5 spd manual, 2wd, I could just step up into it no problem.

Hybrid or Gas for full-time camper? MPG guesses?

    I can consistently get 17-19 in my 2021 2500 6.4 Hemi cruising 60-70 on I5. It's a 3/4 T, full size, 4 door truck with factory 33" tires that is 7' tall with 430 hp. My 2001 Tacoma with 3.4L, 5 spd, 190 screaming devils under the hood on 265/75's, access cab with a camper.....got 17 - 19 also...

I'm with ya, a simple, small truck like that is super appealing.... The closest you could get here is to go out and buy a single cab, long bed 1-ton truck, Ford + 7.3 or get the Dodge (with manual Tcase) + Hemi + AEV upgrades, shorten the frame and slap on a Aqualu style landcruiser tray on the...

Hybrid or Gas for full-time camper? MPG guesses?

Yeah, I think you are right along with performance expectations.....in countries where they sell Toyota 70's, which are fairly heavy vehicles with 2000lb+ payload they offer them with 130hp n/a diesel engines, zero to 60 in never....but it's expected, it's a hardcore work truck. To your point I...

Hybrid or Gas for full-time camper? MPG guesses?

There is more to weight rating than the mechanical components failing, performance is a big one, like braking off a big pass.....

Diff upgrades for late model 2020+ Ram 2500/3500

What options are out there for the late model trucks like my 2021 2500.....tru-trac, ARB, factory e-lock, etc? Seems like there were some changes made to rear axle from 2019 that the market is still trying to catch up with?

Camper hauling - yeah right, base model rigs have 130 hp and can tow what, 3500 kg.....which is much less than a F150. Contractors haul big trailers, need space for gear and 4-5 guys....not happening in a rig smaller than a Tacoma. The 70's actually line up better to a 1/2T truck, they have a...

Gas vs Diesel Shootout in the Dunes & Sand

I should have just googled this before posting, there is an 11 page on this thread from a SA 4x4 site: https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php/174302-Diesel-vs-petrol-dune-chargers/page4 Surprise surprise, same controversy, same arguments but does seem like general sentiment is the...

Gas vs Diesel Shootout in the Dunes & Sand

I know it's hard (to your point), but many folks have owned fullsize gas and diesel rigs which are pretty darn comparable. Modern diesels do make it harder, they have big HP numbers....but I bet if we asked this question even 10 years we'd have more universal support for gassers. it's only...

Gas vs Diesel Shootout in the Dunes & Sand

Thread got massively derailed but was just interested, from a *performance* perspective in folks opinions of how gas and diesel rigs face off in the sand, pretty simple. I get diesels have a different powerband which (depending on the vehicle class) can be an advantage, they can be much better...

Gas vs Diesel Shootout in the Dunes & Sand

Randomly found another one's of that guys videos and he does seem to agree, very sim to what I've been saying, that Petrol works a bit better in sand. Don't necessarily agree with torque/stalling thing here in the US which is largely irrelevant with automatics and big block gas engines, but the...

What are the rules for driving out there? Can you make your own tracks? I see videos of folks crossing desert in Aus making own tracks to explore.

Gas vs Diesel Shootout in the Dunes & Sand

Thanks. Yeah I've seen and heard from folks that live there the American trucks are a thing...not surprising, rigs like Raptors and TRXs do amazing. From what I've seen on YouTube, there are some big $$ sand rigs custom made in the states and shipped over also.

Gas vs Diesel Shootout in the Dunes & Sand

It's not necessarily speed in my mind either. You keep bringing up damage to environment, surely we'd all be on foot or camel it that was a top priority...not huge 4x4s. Here domestically, where we offroad in dunes, there are OHV designated areas we can drive. Even with the heavy 4x4 traffic...
