Best engine for Land Cruiser Troopy

Gas - easy, crate Chevy small block Diesel - I'd go with the R2.8, which is basically designed for repowering Jeeps and Cruisers, it's what Profits uses: https://www.cummins.com/engines/repower Power numbers and weight generally in-line with the OEM Toyota stuff I'd pick Gas / Petrol if it...

    80 Series Maintenance costs?

Source? Did you mean to come across and condescending or maybe I am just reading into your comment wrong?

    80 Series Maintenance costs?

I had a 78' FJ40 for several years in the early 2000's, it was a PITA to try and maintain quality parts vs buying garbage online.....it's actually gotten BETTER over the last few years which may be a possibility for the 80's also as the aftermarket has stepped up for solutions and workarounds...

    80 Series Maintenance costs?

Take a look on IH8mud forum, in the 80 section, there is a thread about parts that are NLA (no longer available) as OEM, the list is long. Specialty cruiser shops likely have a good handle on this and/or have spares, know where OEM may be or know how to work around it....non cruiser shops...

    80 Series Maintenance costs?

Do you have a cruiser specific shop local to you? I'd start there and get a inspection prior to purchase to make sure it's well taken care of and get a sense of what may need done. They are not cheap to work on and some parts are non-longer available directly from Toyota.

Brand new TroopCarrier and HZJ79 Single/Double Cab, starting at $43000usd...

I mean 225 not 215, I knew they were a bit skinnier than the 235's

Oh my, I want that single cab with the split rims! Those tires are what, 215's?

    Show your Thumper!!

My other bike is probably a bit more expo worthy, 2013 500 EXCF, 5.3 gallon tank, Giant Loop rear bags + tank bag, engine tuned and de-smogged, Precision racing steering damper and a few doodads including a custom saw mount + Echo 2511 saw. Bike setup for Tour of Idaho (TOI) T1 which is a 2000...

    This is the one !!

Both are perfect.....235/85's or 265/75's, sign me up.....but you made the right call on the F150, emotion aside...

    This is the one !!

I felt the same about my 78' FJ40 and part of the reason why I could never settle on a 60. As I get older I am better able to separate the emotion from the practicality. Old cruisers are cool, fact (I think we agree on). Old cruisers are a PITA, 80 included. As you point out OEM parts...

    This is the one !!

Mind boggling.... From a functional perspective you could go out and buy a low mile 200 for a fraction of this.

    INEOS Grenadier

Beemers from 30 years ago relative to todays Beemers is like comparing 1980's Mercedes to the early 2000's.....same brand, some of the same concepts but focus on performance and bougie amenities vs ease of maintenance and relative simplicity.

    INEOS Grenadier

To your last point there - my main concern is complexity and easy of maintenance, we are not talking vintage Landcruisers here or even modern domestics pickups, the BMW stuff is notoriously difficult to work on when it comes to things like timing chains, turbo's, water pumps, etc. although I am...

    Am I being ridiculous?

Not bad at all for a HD offroad truck on 35's....I think most Tacomas would get the same with the oversize tires + topper.

    Am I being ridiculous?

My 2021 2500 gets 15-18 on the highway, 13-15 mixed, never seen it below 13, and 10-13 towing our 20' airstream. My 2019 Ranger got the exact same while towing. I'm sure the modern 10 spd trans are a big help there! Do you live in the rust belt?

I knew that - not sure why I wrote 60's.....

so much cool stuff came out of the 60's like that, unlimited possibilities and grand ideas....

    New Bronco

I've driven an older 60 with a 2H and I owned a 1978 FJ40 with a really well tuned 2F and a FZJ for a short stint. I know the 2F's have more power than the 1HZ's and are generally considered higher performing, so based on those experiences, I've extrapolated (without question) but I think it's...

F150 3.5L Ecoboost HDPP vs SuperDuty

I also think they have 7.5" front axles which was in the pre 2005 Tacomas, the newers Tacomas ones are 8" I believe..... Thats the thing, 1t trucks have axles, trans, Tcases and egnies that are more in-line with overseas commercial rigs like the NPR's.

    New Bronco

Totally, a large part of that is ride quality, you look at running gear, like axles....they are sim, but 95% of folks would HATE a rig that rides like a 70....which is POOR.
