wait... this conversation is still going on???
David your **** is over priced. Dont use richlite on the cutting boards. That expensive baltic birch you use... sack it and use home depot plywood with all the gaps in it. How dare you use those expensive full extension Accuride slides. Again Home...
I don't understand you people - yep I said "you people".
It's great that you can find alternative systems in the world but I'm pretty certain that's the point of a marketplace. Products and services to fit every need, budget function etc etc. These conversations always come down to your view of...
I went decisively more tactical :-)
Many of the new radios, ID5100 comes to mind, can be had with magnetic mounts so even if you are in ugly mode for a trip it can be removed for day-to-day use. I'm sure you could easily create a Mag mount for any remote face unit.
Correct. 2500 RPM in the 100 Series is usually very effective. If you over power the system (too much throttle) it will simply give up.
Low range low gear is fine on the 100 series using ATRAC.
a few things....
- The video labels and timing of them was off (lockers on the 470, when LX 450 lockers were on etc)
- The LX 470 driver was using the ATRAC Correctly - which is unusual :)
- ATRAC works better when the front wheels are pointed straight ahead
Nice work.
It's completely possible to do. You'd need to override the door switch (easiest).
In a 100 I would recommend actually doing a separate lighting circuit. Pick up several 6" LED strips (front, mid, rear cabin) and wire (with fuse) directly to constant hot source. You can trigger with a toggle...
I have a system of relays to power up my radios. I dont run them to the aux battery directly but to a blue sea safety hub 150. Yep I break all the rules. But on the flip side I have a toggle switch for key out power up of comms and power off with ACC (the key).
As an "oh shift hit the fan" dire, life or death emergency the PLB is the go to. You do not use it because you got a flat tire. It uses SARSAT satellite communications and most have homing function in them as well. This means when you press the button the distress call is made sending your...
ACR is the one. Online or at REI.
about half way down the page of my build thread is pics etc

Absolutely correct. A PLB is for dire emergency with no other option.
$15 and 30 questions later you could have a ham license. The first time you key...
The ultimate OH SHIFT button is the personal locator beacon (PLB). Global, SARSAT, Single use.
Not tied to a commercial service like InReach or SPOT.
No monthly or annual cost. Cost of device, $250. good for 5 years before battery change.
I realize everyone likes to save a buck but if you are relying on your comms for an emergency then maybe consider a multi tier approach. HAM, SPot or other combinations of devices / services.
Back to the HH question The beofengs are awesome right up to the point they are not. I've had 3 UV5R...
