I run one of these f55 thimbles on my setup. It looks cool. It keeps the winch line in place at the fairlead. Doesn't make marks on my bumper like a raw shackle or hook since it's rubber backed. Provides a nice end point to pull winch line out.

I mounted one inside the dash for a semi hardwire solution. like you thought about... I have another in the righthand stock location in the center stack. Super easy to replace factory 12v socket. Really it is.
